i have a 98 s14
i have a nissan manufacturer specific code
turns out its P1605 A/T Diagnostic Communication Line

how would i go about fixing this?

Sounds like you need an OBDII tranny.

why would i need an obdII tranny?

The FSM says that P1605 could be the result of a wiring problem between the A/T control unit and the ECU. There's a red wire with a black stripe is the comm wire between the A/T control unit and the ECU. You should check that wire for continuity.
