**Rattle Can paint jobs**
 

Has anyone had any real good results with rattle canning their car and or parts of the car?? Im doing my JDM Zenki sides right now and it looks like its gonna turn out really good. I'll post some pics when Im done. MY MATERIALS!!

Rattlecan for large areas is a bad idea. It will fade, crack, chip, peel much faster than a real paintjob. Better off to just wait and get it done correctly.

rattle can ftl... just spend the little money it costs for real paint and clear and just spray it, you have better luck spraying for your first time

I was thinking about using water colors for my car. :cj:

i rattlecanned the sw20 shortly after i got it. flat white and a flat clear to seal it and it lasted over a year without flaking, chipping, fading, or peeling.

i took my time and and it sure as hell looked better than a maaco job. i liked it so much that when i did have enough for a real paintjob i spent it on wheels&tires...

the problem usually is that someone either
a: ruins a perfectly fine paintjob or
b: does it in their front yard

i rattle canned my s13 beater. i think its fine for either a beater, work, or track car. basically... who gives a damn about the outside type deal. anything else. NO.

for sure. i wasnt going for style points, but it was still sexy (it probably helped that the only real flat pieces on the car were the doors and hood)

rattle can is fail. if you want a a cheap paint job, take a class at a local community college

if anything.. get some cheap paint guns and do satin black

just prep car like real paint...sand it to allow paint to bond...tape off clean off debris and shit...

this was completely rattle canned..used to be white... had tiny chips here and there...no clear and no primer

no primer, clear or wet sand. i might wet sand but probably not.

Before you guys start flaming, I would not suggest any of you guys to rattle can your car. Although what I did turned out to be almost exactly as the OEM in look (shininess and color), but the quality was lacking. Bird shit will kill your rattle can job, and leave a permanent imprint of the shit pile even if you wipe it off the moment it touches the paint. If you have the patient and time, you can make it looks damn good but it wont last.

then you can just sand a little and paint right over it.

My car was a beautiful champagne color before the guy who owned it before me rattle canned it black.

Guy didn't realize that just the clear coat was flaking, not the paint...

wonder how the other ones came out.

hehe i happen to like my rattle can job....seeing as my plates say MADMAX, i don't exactly see the need for a good paintjob right now ;)

my datsun on the other hand, she'll be getting a proper paintjob at some point some day.
