What type of LSD is this
 

I recently purchased this LSD and I used my diff cover since it was previously in an S13, so I'm trying to figure out what type it is and what oil is best to use in it. I don't want this one to end up like my last diff.

If its a clutch type, use kaaz.

I'm not sure what type it is. And it makes quite a racket on left turns also. Lots of thumping.

Looks like a factory VLSD. You should put the factory recommended 75w-90 in it. You cannot replace the viscous fluid and hopefully, you didn't pay a fortune for a possibly worn out diff.

Yeah, I used the proper weight fluid, I think it was Mobile brand, I'd have to check when I get home.
I paid $150 for it.

VLSD, I've been cataloging mystery lsd's and I come up with an I dentification system that seems to work.

The holes sizes(big) and spacing and the beveled edge opposite of the ring gear are a clear indication of a VLSD.
Most clutch type lsd's I've cataloged are more square or flat opposite the ring gear.
This was sold to me as a vsld! Not the actual shit but the same you know what i mean.

So if it's VLSD, is there special fluid that i need to have in it?
This is what I put in. 1 and a half jugs of it.

Nope, no special fluids required. The VLSD unit is a seal piece inside the piece with large round holes.

These are the only two posts that you need to really take into consideration. Seeing as though you paid $150, try to see if it locks properly. If not, don't feel too bad about your purchase, you may need to shim your VLSD because the sealed unit within is worn and will act more like an open than what an LSD unit is supposed to act like.

Not sure how to test the lock, but the night I put it in, I went to do a u-Turn and ended up doing a 270, It was more than willing to rotate, and if I do a little power braking, both tires will spin. I'll pull it back down in a couple days to see if there are any obvious issues or metal and then try to do a shim later on when I have access to some power tools.
