Interesting thing in the article was how they calculate fines over there. It is apparently based on income. I think thats perfect. Currently speeding under 15 over is $75 in my local area. For me that sucks because I'm not to rich to not bat an eye at that. But for many in the area they can pay $75 all day. I think income based is the way to go.

I believe the article was referring to the police radars when they said the radars get confused.

if you really want to make things ''fair'' dont use income alone... figure incomeXhours worked and you'd have to have a reasonable floor on this as some bozo who works part time under the table making 200/week working 15 hrs shouldnt have to pay 30 bucks for speeding whereas someone working 50 would have to pay 300

why? because its easier for the bozo to knock that 30 dollar fine than it is someone making a grand a week or whatever

''fairness'' has limitations

what about students? does some 16 year old driving 80 in a 55 get penalized less because he only makes 3 grand a year at a summer job?

keep speeding ticket fines the way it is... if youre broke like ive been and sped then you deserve to get a comparitively huge fine just like everyone else

Who cares if he works 50 hours a week? If he makes 6 figures it doesn't matter how much someone works $100 still isnt going to be a deterrent. As far as the under the table argument your either making the under the table cashflow crowd sound like a huge income sector or your proposing a noticeable portion of the nation is hiding their income. The fairness in that situation would wind up being best case scenario like any other federal program... full of loopholes, bugs, caveats, and be marginally functional.

If it's based on income. He'd get hit with a fine based on his income. Besides a 16year old doing 25 over is going to get his license suspended per graduated licensing.
