Fuel Tank Repair ?
 

I have a 96 s14 with a fuel leak, the previous owner screwed an amp into the shelf of the trunk and put 4 holes in the fuel tank. i have a repair kit to fix it but i was hoping for some advice. i am thinking of just putting the putty from the repair kit on the screws and screwing them back in, or would it be better to remove the tank and then put the putty on ? please help thanks.

but if you just want to do putty then pull the tank, putty/jb weld, put it back in.

If it were me id use it as an excuse to do a fuel cell...but im nuts.

Im with everyone else, pull the tank and temp fix it and replace asap (with a fuel cell :D)

lol, i might think of a fuel cell after i build a new motor... its a stock ka with an injen intake... im looking to do a sr20det or ls1 swap, and convert to a 5 speed. then maybe lol

true lol, but idk how it will fit with my sound system, my car is strictly a show car 4 now... no racing until swap lol

It would fit fine, especially since you mount a fuel cell through the floor where the oem tank is and its flat on top, you can have a cover, no problem

It is held below the car with two metal straps that fasten to the car. You need to get at least the rear up on jackstands, and then remve one or both sides of the straps from the car. That will aloow the tank to drop out of the car. Make sure you release any pressure in the tank by removing the fuel cap, and then take the lines off the top of the tank. It will drop out pretty easy after that.

Fuel cells are pretty simple, but I understand not doing it.

Dropping a fuel tank is even easier than dropping a diff on an s chassis.

Also don't forget to disconnect lines and such from it

Had to drop the sub frame on my 95 to replace the tank.

My tank had a large crack on the bottom from the previous owner(old lady) trying to offroad backwards onto some rocks. I tried to JB weld it as a temp solution haha bad idea. It worked for a few days and my garage smelled like gas for a couple weeks after it started leaking again.
