Trunk issues

I have an S14 where the trunk latch wont go farther down. It latches but sits too high and a plate is blocking the way which is glued in. Should I pry the plate off? any other potential fixes?

Do you have the correct rubber bumpers on the trunk lid? Take a picture of this "plate".

That plate moves. Pull the trunk release to move it out of the way.
