Because i live in the desert. Unless you ride on the track all the time the 450r is not very comfortable, or comparable to the 400ex for exploring the desert and mountains. All my friends have polaris utility quads. The 400ex is already too fast for them. The 450R is wayyyyyy more maintenance...and would not be fun to ride with them. The 400ex was the better choice for the 99% of riding i will be doing. Trail riding.

Salesman offered me the TRX700XX for like $400 more which equates to like $8 more a month. The independant rear suspension, liquid cooling, and fuel injection were the pros....the cons were the looks, and the 150lbs of extra weight.

The 400ex was doing wheelies just trying to turn it around to get it in my garage. More than enough for a first quad.

Nice quad man. The 450 is nice but for trails like you said this will be good. Now to get a pipe and some better tires for the Az dirt

The 450r would be more maintenance but it wouldn't be more difficult to ride, plenty of low end, it's not a 2 stroke.


400 is a solid choice, no doubt.
