The OEM+ / S-Chassis Preservation Thread
It's slightly uplifting that people are at least posting on Zilvia to ask if they should preserve their S-Chassis cars or make them into complete shitboxes. It's not much, but maybe it's a step in the right direction.
If this thread gets a decent amount of participation, maybe we can keep it and use it to motivate new users to: - Not post threads asking to be spoonfed specs for stock-bodied cars - Save 'unicorn' cars from a life of misery - Preserve the remaining cars out there Please note the title of the thread. OEM+ - Suspension work, stock-bodied, OEM-optional-parts-using cars. Preservation - OEM nut/bolt, factory-wheel-rocking motherfuckers that do God's work. The overall goal is to give newcomers a reference point. Where should they spend money to get the car looking decent and lower to the ground. Wheel specs listed here will of course be my opinion, but feel free to chime in. Most people don't want to search the Wheel Fitment Thread so if they can look at a thread geared towards stock-bodied cars they can find what they need. I'm boring. I do minimal work on my cars to get them lowered, aligned, and on the road. This thread is for people like me that don't want to shoot for big horsepower, cut up the bumper for a fat intercooler, and bacon their fenders trying to fit bigger wheels. |
Here are some of my cars, past and present. Most are what I would consider OEM+ and use the bare minimum to get lower to the ground and look good.
180SX/240SX 1993 240SX SE Rear Upper Control Arms (RUCA) Coilovers (Feal 441) Subframe Bushings (not needed to go lower, but should be a 1st stop with these cars) 16x8.0+0 Volk TE37V Fenders Rolled Although these pictures are reversed, here's an example. This: https://i.imgur.com/q67sZ6j.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pIeKqMe.jpg Used to be this: https://i.imgur.com/CjyT4gS.jpg I got this car with 92,XXX miles. It was automatic, sunroof-equipped, and lucky for me stored in a garage. After getting the rear bumper repainted and the rest of the car paint/color-corrected, it looked brand new. I sourced the 5MT parts out over the course of a month and used only OEM parts. By the time I got the wheels and suspension on it was almost time for me to go to Japan...and that's why it's important to keep all of your OEM parts. This is all you have to do to your car to make it look decent. 1996 180SX Type X Rear Upper Control Arms (RUCA) Coilovers (KTS) S14 Silvia K's 5lug Hubs/Brakes 17x9+22 Rays LMGT4 Fenders Rolled https://i.imgur.com/pwCLwi9.jpg |

These are two different cars, but you get the idea. 1988 Q's This was a preservation car. I didn't want to modify two cars at once, so this one was slowly getting OEM parts refreshed until I found the color I really wanted. The picture is just used to show the difference. https://i.imgur.com/P3PVYdB.jpg 1989 Q's Rear Upper Control Arms (RUCA) Coilovers (Feal 441+) 16x8.0+0 RS Watanabe R-Type Fenders Rolled https://i.imgur.com/VrFso3x.jpg |
you should add a master part number list to the op for things like weather strip, trim, bolts, bushings, etc. could be a very useful resource.
|
You're doing the lords work right here.
We need more people talking about preserving these cars instead of trying to build drift missile shit boxes. I'm on my third s13 and the cleanest out of all of my previous 240s. 89 two tone. I'm fully supportive of this thread and the few companies who have recently started providing us with long lost new-old schassis bits. Here's my contribution:
https://i.imgur.com/p7lWdkN.jpg '95 original 5spd car with 1 previous registered owner. He passed away and the car was sold at an estate sale. The car had been sitting for a few years and the buyer did nothing and let it sit for another couple of years. At some point the driver window was busted. I bought it and let it sit for ANOTHER 3 years. This past december I pulled it out and stripped the hideous blue interior. With the help of a parts car I completely swapped the interior to black with an uncracked dash and leather seats. I did rear kyb struts, brakes all around, and a tune up and it has now been my daily for a few months. The body is completely straight, although the paint is shot. The plan is to stay completely stock. At some point I will repaint it either the same color or AL0(Ruby red, the color of my first car/s14). I've put a shit ton of little tedious into it already and there's a bunch more til it will count as a restoration, but I've really been enjoying having it. |

I like this thread.

I feel like the concept of this thread really applies to S13 and earlier chassis. Maybe the S14 has not aged enough, but they don't give me the 'classic' car Feels in preservation form.
That said, I Like this thread and hope it blows up with more entries. As far as S14s go, Bluejayde's black Zenki comes to mind. |

I love this thread too!! I will be posting pics of my car very soon, I haven't figured it out yet. The thread is also very timely. I just heard today Barret-Jackson mentioned two cars to watch as their value starts to soar. One was the older Supras and yes , the Nissan 240sx!
|
I'd chime in, but my cars are more resto-mod. I do like how aesthetically pleasing they came from the factory, but just can't stand the stock ride height.
https://i266.photobucket.com/albums/...8F4956D9C3.jpg I do have folders with print outs of literally every single last part number for S13's and S14's. I'll see if I can give myself some time soon to scan them and upload them on here for people to reference in the future. |

The point of this thread? I dont know. Its like, lets post cars that are barely modified and jerk off to them.
This kinda reminds me of what the cars on the old 240SX mailing list used to look like back in the day. You know, in the 90s... when people didnt do much other than install wheels, tint and a stereo. That was what we considered modified back then. Quote:

Everyone gets mad when new age kids wanna overbuild their cars to FD spec, neon colored, tube chassised ridiculousness. So now some people are trying to show them how simple builds can be great and getting back to basics would be better to see than dudes “ruining” cars for clout. But someone will always complain about something I guess. |
Sweet thread. I’ve had my s14 Kouki for 22 years, most amazing, versatile, high performance and well mannered and reliable car I’ve known. She had many mods over the years, and currently going through a bottom up restoration.
Complete suspension overhaul done. Interior being done right now. Next steps are to get her back on the road as a daily, refreshed and like new. These are such a great chassis, the original was rather dangerous, and suspension, wheels and tyres are a must have in my experience. Please restore these, as there is nothing like them available today, now unlikely in the future. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fdf09e5b5e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b3e4c28e17.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...81c3519178.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5f2779764d.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Whats the point of this thread you ask????
Preserving the remaining clean, uncut examples is worth discussing at this point. With all the posts so far, maybe Dizzariot has uncovered a new sub culture! |

Only around the block when I had to move house, it was terrible lols, not setup lots of rear positive camber, old Konis, no sway bars etc. It will be set up for grip, to enjoy all the twisty roads at my back door, so hopes are high! While mine weren't terrible or falling apart before hand, it really firmed up the rear and eliminated slop on and off throttle; firm, but predictable. I've driven with solid subframe bushings and felt a lot of feedback through the chassis that I dont get with the poly subframe bushings. I would have much rather gone with sphericals in the knuckles but I couldn't justify the extra $500 on a street car. Suspension moves freely; no binding, no squeaks since I loaded up the suspension before tightening the knuckle side bolts like you're supposed to. |
I chose the gktech solid subframe bushings, and Poly for the diff, with the aim to raise the subframe as much as possible, and have that road feel, with poly on the diff to isolate transmission noise somewhat...
Then with the full butyl interior to quieten up noise as much as possible. The boot (trunk) is bare, with some tasteful renovation and a wooden floor, with the idea I can pop down the rear seat flap for more noise, or close it up for stereo times. It’s all an experiment, and hopefully delivers ;). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Currently mid restoration on my 1992 hatch
I'm really liking this thread lol. I know too many junk 240's that could have fixed up, but ended up being hacked or scrapped. I'll have to do a full build thread one day but here's a quick summary of my car and the stuff I've done since owning it. This is the first picture I ever took of the car, i know its shit, but it shows its sub par condition: https://i.imgur.com/pTxuKIDh.jpg Here is a roller that my friend took that shows the shitty spray painted fender and dented rocker panel etc https://i.imgur.com/CHxzc3Lh.jpg The first thing I did was rip out the thrashed interior and replace the carpet, dash and shit bezel. I really wish that i took pictures of how bad the interior was before, but I wanted that trash gone so quick I forgot to take pics :picardfp: https://i.imgur.com/QcAUXa3h.jpg Unfortunately the dash wasn't perfect, had a few hairline cracks. https://i.imgur.com/cgMDkbwh.jpg OK skipping a while ahead and approx. 8 months of body work in between class I started the painting process: https://i.imgur.com/DHl8ltgh.jpg I didn't have the time to paint the whole car start to finish in one go, so paint has been taking quite a while, but here's a pic in primer https://i.imgur.com/A5MoVuOh.jpg In the meantime I've been slowly picking away at the interior. I got a damn near perfect dash, a digital cluster, and I fabbed up some seat rails for 300zx seats. I've heard mentions of people putting 300zx seats into s13's on zilvia and nico like 10+ years ago but any links are long dead. I believe these are the only pics of this conversion out there: https://i.imgur.com/EpjkbOih.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2yYnmqth.jpg This past week I finally started putting down the color. I'M using HoK KBC-11 brandywine over BC-12 zenth gold. I've only done the jambs for now but I think the color is amazing. Its crazy deep; a bright red in the sun, burgundy in the shade and almost black at night: https://i.imgur.com/zIrrAKAh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IKUmGarh.jpg I tried to keep it pretty brief, but I plan on making this into a full build thread one day lol |
Awesome thread. I picked this thing up for a cheap price which seemed to be in rough shape but as I went through it turned out to be a great purchase. I was hoping the original color was red but it turned out the original color was gray so thats what I decided to paint it. The interior is also complete now and will start focusing on doing 5 speed swap. For now im enjoying it how it is.

Great thread! absolutely loving the people coming out of the woodworks from all around the world to show their unmolested 240s. My S14 was the first car I ever owned, as a teenager owning one of these cars, people ask me damn near everyday "When are you going to Kouki it? When are you going to widebody it?" Personally, I love the oem+ look of these cars, they are timeless. The car is now staying at home as I head off to college..

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...44f6b279ab.jpg This was one of the earlier stages of my car and probably my favorite..before I started doing stupid stuff like slamming it on the ground with super stiff coilovers and ripping out all of the fender liners/splash shields. It just had 2" drop springs, sway bars, z32 TT wheels, Q45 brake upgrade, JDM aero and a reliable ka-t setup putting down 270whp. It was such a fun and easy car to drive. |
Maybe i'm in the same boat as a couple others, my car is more of an OEM+ body/suspension/wheel wise, but the modified/shaved/tucked engine bay/cage is meant to be deceiving from the outside look... even though i've been bashed a little for painting a non two-tone, factory two-tone colors. :wiggle:

jdmlivin: Looks like it's coming along great!
I was lucky enough to snag a pignose for my 240SX before I left for Japan. I sold my Type X here and I told myself I'd get a genuine 180SX front bumper for my 240SX after that. I'm trying to source all OEM aero parts so I can mix-and-match in my later years. I really want to be that dude that has dual projectors, triple projectors, bricks, aero bar, non-aero bar, OEM sides, and OEM rear valences on deck to change the look of my S13 Silvia if I get bored. Same goes for the S15. I feel like it's a good way to keep the same car for a long time, but mix and match shit whenever you feel the itch to move on. Constant struggle. |

I would say OEM plus. S14 Silvia. Full JDM conversion. Lots of JDM OEM options. A few highlights...fully functional JDM DCC, OEM HUD, and rear window louvers w Cusco coilovers and 18-19 staggered set up. I have no idea still how to post or add a pic to any of my post...

I've always been a huge fan of OEM+. Never really been a fan of aftermarket kits as they don't do as well at complimenting factory lines.
This is my car and my partners car. My car came with all the factory type x kit so i was lucky i never had to search for any of the kit. My girlfriends car on the other hand was bone stock. It took maybe a year or so to get it looking the way it is. https://i.imgur.com/q4hr6Jw.jpg |
^Perfection with a capital P. Well done sir!

Just found this thread now, glad to see others that are in the same mindset as myself. Been buying S14s since 2002 and always loved the OEM+ style. Currently own 2 1998 Nissan 240SX, one is entirely stock and the other has a fully built S14 SR20DET and the plan is to replicate a JDM S14. Hoping to own these for a long time.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d80fc01a9f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...64117e468e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...340b6e5a5a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ff82a37e49.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e3abc5af42.jpg
