But I'm 20 minutes from fantastic driving roads, 30 minutes from the beach, an hour and a half from Anza Borrego, two hours from Idyllwild, three hours from Big Bear or Death Valley, four hours from Vegas. I'm half a day from being in Mexico drinking a Corona on the beach and eating seafood that was swimming hours earlier.

I can load up and be on a nineteenth-century mining trail within five hours, spend the next seven days on variations of that trail including multiple mine ruins, and never have to worry about a camping permit or trespassing. At the end of it, I can wash the desert dust off at the beach.

Arizona laws are pretty great, actually. Only things I disagree with is how any amount of recreational weed possession is a felony and abortion is legal.

We are 0 miles from swimming in a river while staring at Mount Washington, have seasons, can sit in our backyard drinking a keg and shooting guns at the moon, can sit on my porch naked drinking a coffee while feeding moose and can do pretty much whatever the fuck I want that isn't completely retarded that'll land me in jail. And that's only if I piss the cops off enough. Usually they just walk away and high five you for not making them work. Crime is also next to nothing and we are left alone.

Only thing is the lack of jobs in specific spots but that's chill. I have a home in RI where I work the 9-5 and then retreat on the weekends, holidays and vacations.

for me so far the pros outweigh the cons. politically I’m definitely at odds with much of the policies in CA as are the high cost of living but the amount of recreational activities are hard to beat.

now if I were to start a business, yes would be far more motivated to move out. as of right now Id have my income taxes closer to 25% from say tx, az vs 33% for CA, not to mention 10% sales tax and high property taxes. definitely conflicted as I enjoy CA more but its not the sensible choice in terms finances.

You can get the same amount of activities in just about any state if you take more than six seconds to look. East Coast has the same cool shit at probably 5% of the cost. Shit, even Utah and Montana and all those weird ass states have tons of beautiful shit to do. You're justifying staying in that shit hole and that's on you.

The East Coast doesn't have literally anywhere near the amount of public land. I can dispersed camp all over California. We can get into a pissing contest that no one wins, if you'd like.

Utah and Montana are harder to make a good living while doing what I know how to do. One of my suppliers says it's damn near impossible to find someone who doesn't have a substance abuse problem and is mechanically-oriented in SLC.

I have a business here, about two hours from LAX and an hour from SAN. There is a huge Porsche owner population in SoCal, some of our suppliers are here. One of the biggest vintage Porsche shows in the country is in LA and Anaheim. Rennsport Reunion is at Laguna Seca, and driving and showing our cars during Monterey Car Week helped get our name on the map.

Politics do not maketh the state. They are but one part of a whole.

Where our tax dollars go, and where they don't will impact the condition of the roads you drive on, how much your pay for a house and how many feces and heroin needles you have walk around in downtown LA. The middle class gets fucked here. Wages for the most part are a bit higher, but don't even come close to justifying the cost of living. It's a broken system with ass-backwards policies and just not a good deal imo. Sure the beaches and weather are nice, but what's the point when you need dual incomes to get by? My wife and I have been looking at moving out of this place for years and we are finally in a good time to get out. Looking at CO, TX and other places at the moment.

I mean, I am a GM of a truck upfitting company that has outfits all over the place. I've been to Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Utah, Montana, Florida, New York, all of New England, Washington, Michigan, Arizona and Texas just company related. I've also been to California. While - yes, it has beautiful places all over the place from Joshua Tree to Sequoia, you're justifying living in a place and getting financially raped because it has pretty shit.

Maybe you should look into living in NH or ME or VT. Plenty of business opportunity, no shortness of cool shit to see and everything costs nothing. Oh, and you have all your rights as a fucking human.

Don't mean to double post but I don't really care. TX is a great option. I was stationed there as was my sister in a different part and it is cheap to live, what you get for your money is astronomical, people are generally more chill if you aren't in the shit hole part of town and you have all your rights.

I love TX. The property taxes are like 3x as much as they are here, but if you make a good salary and don't have a crazy expensive house it kind of evens out.

The house I have here is about 20 years old and probably around half a million. The same house out there brand new with a pool, grotto and a fucking helipad is probably half that. Easily.

The only thing you give up in some locations is the space. You won't have the same property size unless you go out into the sticks. The city is a little more cramped. But again, gas and cigs are like half as much and the salaries are pretty fucking good.

I like larger multicultural cities and the activities it provides like good restaurants. that CA has a great access to racetracks and car culture is another bonus other large cities like NY, Chicago, Seattle lack. If I were to leave LA those would be the alternatives, sadly also cities I cannot bring myself to agree with politically but to me worth the cost of admission.

Ive travelled a bit in phoenix, austin (most overrated city aside from the bbq), denver, vegas for week long trainings. they are fine but just dont do it for me. can always move out later if things get worse in CA, which seems more likely than not.

As for jobs/ careers... I'd probably do a lot better out in California and there are some great roads around the bay area/ San Jose. I just wouldn't want California to be the "only" place I lived. Thus why I'd only move back if I had the means to afford a place there and "out of state".

Moving from the Los Angeles area to the Memphis area in my mid teens was definitely a pretty big bummer, but family and part of the above is why I haven't moved back. The biggest bummer, being that the closest mountain roads are either 4hrs to the west in AR, or 6hrs to the east (Tail of the Dragon area). At least there are some winding roads around here, though.

That may take a while. Even if the state cuts off all of the eviction protection from Covid (which I don't think they will) it could take years before the foreclosures hit the market in sufficient numbers.

Tell me about it! I have a couple clients who are commercial real estate brokers and/or owners. They (especially the owners) are pretty fucked without some sort of government intervention. IMO, CA looks like a microcosm of progressive leaning laws/regulations going too far, communities of NIMBYs, absurd cost of living, diverse geography and populace with their own unique challenges.

We heat the booth for ~four hours for the initial dry. If we wanted, we could color sand within 24 hours of application- as is, we color sand panels only immediately before tub assembly so we can address any handling scuffs/scratches at the same time.

One thing that we've been using like crazy on sales car touch-ups is UV primer. Spray, move to sun, topcoat almost instantly. If we did volume, we'd have a UV wand but we don't so we don't.

Basically what has happened is, as a society, we have had over 30 years (more like 50) of teaching kids to yell and demand things, instead of giving them the ability to think critically and have the skills to create. Furthermore, we've voted in regulations with the best of intentions that drive up the costs of starting a business. Anyone that is a business owner understands all the bullshit behind the scenes they have to do to create jobs. Its like the game is rigged.

There is also the problem with unions, and international non profits. These groups are just as bad as the big corporations. They too lobby government and game the system so they can create social subversion so they can monopolize and rape taxpayers, or monopolize their services.

So, what is the fix? Decentralized limited government.

I warned back about 15 years ago that you need to get rid of the ATF's power as they are absolutely going to try to take your guns, and now we are there. For almost everyone that wants to have a loud opinion about this matter, it's better for them to just simply move out of state and make this someone else's problem. Just like cars. Just like taxes. Just like guns. Just like any other government overreach or government failure.

Everyone wants a solution but no one wants to be a part of it, that's the core of it. We can point fingers at the government but the amount of people that volunteer to do work in communities is absurdly low.

Not surprised. CA has already been sending cars to the ref that had passed a previous smog check with an ECU flash. If the CVN(basically a checksum of the .bin file in the ECU) isn't the expected OEM value they will assume it's flashed. This check has been done retroactively, but now it will be during the actual smog check, which is more convenient. Dealing with the referee is stressful.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone comes up with a workaround.
