S14 - STI Brembo Brake Upgrade
 

My car: 95 240SX SE non-abs (interested in a street/autocross setup)

I would appreciate some help finalizing a parts list for my choice of big brake upgrade. Please help me organize a good list for future forum-crawlers. Let me know if you see mistakes, have info or resources to add, and unresolved questions are highlighted in red. Thanks.

Calipers:
Front: STI (2004-07)(*note that the 2007 STI Special Edition is excluded)
Rear: STI (2004-07)(*note that the 2007 STI Special Edition is excluded)

Note that Brembo gold rotors can be touched up using Honda "Inca Pearl" paint code Y-61P. It is not a heat resistant paint though. Brembo calipers (Suburu) have a 2-step paint process: first a ceramic based paint and then the gold color. If your scratches/paint issues go through the ceramic coating this may only be a band-aid depending on the amount of heat that the particular area sees from brake use.

Front Caliper Brackets: Necessary to fit STI Brembos on your S14.

Rear Caliper Shim: Should not be required if you choose Z32 rear rotors.

Rotors: Since these are HUGE compared to stock, you will need to remove or trim the dust shields.
Front: Evo 8/9
Rear: Z32 (1990-1996 300ZX) (note: Evo 8/9 rotors fit, but will not allow the Z32 parking brake assembly to fit)

Brake Lines:
Front:
(1) Z32 "conversion" lines (Are these the same as stock Z32 lines or not?)
(2) Stock or Stainless STI (2004-07) lines.
(3) S15 Lines may work (anybody know for sure)(Nissan PN?)
(4) R32 Lines may work (anybody know for sure)(Nissan PN?)
(3) Other options?
Rear: Same as front.
Parking Brake:
(1) R33 cables (necessary for Z32 e-brake assy)(PN KITR33PAIR from mynismo.com) (Nissan PN??)

Parking Brake Assembly:
(1) Z32

Master Cylinder: Needed if you don't want pedal feel to SUCK. Note that some bending of stock brake lines may be necessary.

Dual Diaphram Brake Booster: Not necessary, but can improve/change pedal feel/effort required.

For some reason the z32 came up with three different numbers, maybe it comes with the master cylinder? And both the s14 and z32 boosters are dual diaphragm.

Brake Lines:
You need to use the banjo style lines
like OEM calipers
since the Brembors we've seen don't have the 'nipple' in the hole the z32 caliper has

Well I guess you could call this a place holder post for me. This is what my setup is going to be as of next week (S14A).

1: 04 STi Brembos
1.5: Skullworks STi adapters (revised)
2: FTP Z32 conversion lines w/ banjo bolts to fit onto STi Calipers
3: Stoptech Evo 8/9 front rotors
4: Centric 93 300ZX Turbo BMC 1"

I want to see how this works for the time being, so for the rear im just going with stock S14 rear rotors and stoptech pads. The brake bias might be slightly off, but I can always put on the rear STi calipers later.

I will update this as soon as I put everything on.

im doing the evo 8 brembo on my front of my s14
you need the front s14 braided lines to work on the front calipers and i beleive you need the same on the rear.
the z32 lines dont use a banjo fitting

I am in the process of doing this conversion on my S14 as well, however I am using an EVO front and STI rear. The last components I need to buy are the brake lines, and I am still uncertain as to what is the best to use. As far as I can see, a stock line will work in the rear. The banjo fitting fits within the guides, and the inside diameter are both 10mm. I am assuming that the length will be okay, as the caliper position is only slightly different.

I will not use a Z32 conversion lines in the front, so I need to find out if the stock front lines will work for the front.......help

from what i hear the sti brembos work with the stock rear line :)

i had a quick question also, the 04-07 sti rear bremos are a perfect bolt on fit with the evo rear rotors (with a 3mm spacer on the calipers) anyone know what year rotor to get from the evo?
also does anyone know if the z32 rotor he plans on using is going to have the same fitment as the evo rotor?
im not worried about the ebrake situation atm, i plan on running a line lock for now lol

Don't forget, you'll need bolts that are compatible with the calipers to count them, and for the brake line mounting.

You can use a Z32 rear brake assembly and the STI caliper will fit without a spacer. Aside from that, you will retain the use of your handbrake.

Correct, but to further answer the question from driftgoddess, evo rotors will fit fine. They will likely require that 3mm washer to be fit between the caliper and caliper bracket in order to properly fit the evo rotors. BUT, as you seem to realize, evo rotors (in the rear) will force you to find your own method of e-braking since the Z32 e-brake assembly will not fit under the evo rotor.

What year evo for rear rotors?? I think you should look for whatever is compatible with a 2005 evo. Does that sound right guys??

For once and for all:
Brembos (Evo and STi) use a banjo style type of line
OEM lines will work if you're strapped for cash
or buy any oem type ss line (like SPLs)

I got my hands on a full set of 2011 STI brembos. I was only going to use the fronts as the rears have different mounting when compared to the 07 and prior. The front of the 08+ STI brembos use the same mounting holes as the 07 and earlier but someone who makes the brackets said they bolt spacing on the EVO is a little closer than the STI caliper, has anyone ran into this?
