I have '95 240SX LE with the stock 6-spk CD/tape/radio Clarion system. This system has two amps in the trunk underneath the rear deck.

My question is: Do those amps power all the speakers in the car or just the rears ones? Does the Radio/CD deck send a line-out to the amp??

I'm hooking up a computer to the car and was wondering if I could send a line-out signal from the snd card on the computer to the amplifier and hope that all the speakers get it??

Anyone else have any computers in their S14 240SX?? If so, where did you place them and how did you connect it?

Thanks

To answer your question, the amps power all of the speakers. one of the amps powers the front, the other powers the rear . As for the computer thing, I cant say i see the logic in all of this unless you are writing speeding tickets for a living or (god forbid) posting on message boards and playing solitaire during that tiresome commute to and from work/school and on the interstate <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

In theory you COULD do this, but i would recomend getting an aftermarket amp, that way theres no dicking around with factory harnesses, you could just run from the soundcard to the amp input jacks and then run wires straight to your speakers or cut the ones form the factory amps and splice off of those.

If you are going to splice off the amps....or for records sake bypass them &nbsp;(can we archive this someone??) &nbsp;here it is:

1 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;left front speaker neg. input
2 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Black &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right front speaker pos. input
3 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue/yellow &nbsp; &nbsp; left front speaker neg. output
4 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Brown/white &nbsp; right front speaker neg. output
5 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Brown &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; right front speaker pos. output
6 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Pink &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;left front speaker pos. input
7 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;White &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right front speaker neg. input
8 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue/white &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;left front speaker pos. output
9 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;acc.
10 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Green/red &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; on/off
11 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Purple &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; left rear speaker neg. input
12 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Pink &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right rear speaker neg. input
13 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Green &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; left rear speaker neg. output
14 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Pink &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right rear speaker neg. output
15 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right rear speaker pos. output
16 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Green &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; left rear speaker pos. input
17 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;right rear speaker pos. input
18 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Red &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; left rear speaker pos. output
19 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Blue &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;acc
20 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Green/red &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; on/off

Splices:
1 to 3
2 to 5
4 to 7
6 to 8
11 to 13
12 to 14
15 to 17
16 to 18

Thanks a lot man. So I would splice the cables from the soundcard to the input wires on the amp right?

Also, the computer would be running Linux with a specialized interface. Meaning it is not setup to play games or anything like that. Its main use will be for playing MP3s and used as a GPS unit. There are software that maps out your location and your position and connects to a GPS receiver that you can buy for $300 or so.

There are many possibilties of having a comptuer in the car. For instance, I can attach cameras to the outside of the car and use them, or it can be used as security cameras <but this owuld need massive hdd space>.

Thanks again for you info tho. For now, I will use the factory amps till I can get a new amp. I'm not a true audio-phile so the current speakers are fine for now.

Man, I'd love to get a computer hooked up for data aquisition. &nbsp;Like on touring car races on speed channel or the R34 GTR's thing. &nbsp;

Have everything your guages show (rpm, mph, boost, a/f, egt, injector duty cycle, ect, ect...) along with throttle position, G meter, and whatever else you wanted. &nbsp;Of course have it recording syncronized with your video camera <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> woohoo!
THAT would really kick ass!

Oh, and thanks for the info rampid360, I'm sure that will help a lot of people. &nbsp;I put that in the FAQ for you, tho you can put stuff in there yourself if you didn't know.

Data aquistion is pretty hard because you'd have to get the right tool that would decode the information from the ECU to something that we can understand. I'm sure there are devices/software out there, but that is probably pretty expensive.

My goal is for it to play MP3s and act as a GPS> Future plans/dreams are having cameras installed on the car that could act as securtiy when the car is parkedd <but i would need massive hdd space for that>

The only problem I see with that is that you probably wont have enough power coming out of the soundcard to go into the amps. The input to the amps are actually the line outs of the head unit which would put out considerably more power than a headphone jack on a PC.
I would get a head unit w/ a line in on it, get a RF modulator, or just get a tape adapter.

The best thing to do though would be to scrap those clarion amps though since they are shit and get a good amp. Then you could just run the PC's ouput directly inot the Amp's input
And, if you get a new head unit, definately bypass the stock amps.

thats what i was saying originally, it would be so much easier to run a line to an aftermarket amp as opposed to splicing wires and trying to power up the stock amps and dealing with harnesses. &nbsp; Just one of those cheap ass k-mart amps would be sufficient.

Thanks for the info.

Do most amps available in Walmart have line-in that is compatible with a lineout from a soundcard?

Although if I am going to buy an amp, I'll probably get a good quality one rather than a crappy one from Walmart.

Dammit..this was supposed to be a cheap project! =)
