View Full Version : KA24DE tranny
Is there any difference between an s13's tranny and an s14's for the KA24DE?
I've had troubles with my 3rd gear since day one and now 4th gear is giveing me problems. I think my syncros are messed up or something. There was also a LOT of metal stuck to my drain plug when I changed the oil, so I know theres a good ammount of damage in there.
I'm thinking of just buying a cheap replacement tranny instead of haveing mine rebuilt...hopefully it will only have to last a year <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
I know bbp said redline tranny oil has a tendancy to "gum up" syncros so I'll be trying mobile 1 synthetic before I spend lots of money on a tranny but I don't think it will help.

Anyone else having problems w/the 3rd gear syncro on the KA24DE tranny (s13)? Mine grinds shifting into 3rd while running at high RPMs. I've heard this mentioned before from other people, so I'm starting to think that its a common problem on the KA tranny.

they are the same and the third gear synco issue is universal i.e. it happens on S13's and S14's its pretty much how you treat your tranny and for a lot of us its pretty much how the previous owner of your car treated as to if its going to crap out on you. I had a 90 Hardbody that was mine from 21'000 miles forward and my tranny held up . I have a 98 5 speed in my 91 right now (it had 8,000 miles on it when I installed it) and it is working fine.

have drift do u know if it s a nissan design problem...cuz it happend 2 my cousins sentra 2...his tranny's 3rd is forked! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':nervous:'>
From FA I got that it's the same tranny in every way except for sensors. I don't yet know what needs to be done to get the wireing right, but it will bolt up correctly.
Anybody know if CA, SR, or RB transmissions have similar issues or if it is isolated to the KA tranny's?

not sure on if its a universal issue to all Nissan trannies but i can say that is possible seeing as Nissan has a habit of using the same trans in lots of different applications. I.E. Hardbody truck tranny is very close to exact same tranny we have and SR trannies are the same the only difference is the bell housing . On the sensor side basically the speed sensor in the 89-93 are the same but different from the speed sensor in the 95-98's . When I put in my 98 5 speed I have to put a 91 speed sensor in it to get my speedo working right . as for the other sensors go they are just wires and can be wired up to work . Did it on my car.
