Looks wise the 18" usually are better. But from a performance stand pont 17" usually are lighter and allow more rubber.
I'd stick with 17" there are a ton of great rims to choose from.

I am going w/ a 16'' to cut weight over my stock 15'', to gain more rubber while not having to deal w/ camber issues, and so I don't have to break the bank everytime I need new tires. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
Maybe if I could score some Graham Lites for like 250 a peice I would go w/ 17s but I can't so I won't <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

well i have 18's on my car and i think the ride isn't bad since i have gotten new struts and my springs on. I like the look of the 18's alot more yes there is less tire but you get better handling with them than 17's. And my 18's with tires are lighter than my stock wheels with tires. So i guess you can make your own decision. I have pictures on my web page check my profile for the link and you can see my car. those pictures are before i lowered it
