Ok I have done some searching and I am starting this thread because I am getting conflicting stories. Firstly does anybody have comparision pics of USDM v JDM bumper support. Some posts have said that you need to cut the crap out of USDM support and some say you need to only drill two new holes in it. If I only need to drill a couple of holes np I will do that at home, but if it is a total rebuild I will go down to Venus and get one. Any help would be great, Thanks

Johnnie, what model are we talking about here? I'm assuming S13, but you know what they say about making an assumption. "It makes an ass outta you and -mption" or something like that. Or maybe S14? I don't really know. :-/

Sorry guys, I am doing a S13 Silvia conversion and I have all the parts minus the JDM bumper support. Some posts have stated that it is an easy conversion, only requireing two holes to be drilled in the support to get the USDM support to work, and some say it is worth it to buy a JDM support because I would have to do major cutting to get it to fit. Now major cutting does not scare me because I have access to torches and a plasma cutter @ work.
Thanks guys
The arms that bolt to the frame needs be changed because the 180sx support sits out farther.
You can drill the bumper mounting holes out on the 180sx and bolt the bumper to it then you can see where the new mounting holes need to be.

What I did was simply cut a long U shape from where the original holes where, a good old hacksaw worked for me! =) No drilling was involved. This will allow you to push the bumper was far as you can so it lines up nice with the S13 fenders. Just make sure you tight the bolts on tight!

JDM bumper cover won't fit on USDM metal bumper support.
Trust me, I tried.
You can make it fit, by cutting the shit out of the USDM metal support...

Yo Art, could u elaborate? hahaha... is the USDM support too wide for the silvia bumper to fit over? and/or too tall?
IEs13, seems easy enough to adjust how far back the support goes into the chassis. Did you actually get the silvia bumper onto the US support, or is that avatar pic sumone elses silvia?!

Wouldn't cutting the BS be ruining the point of the support?

If you have to cut into it and also have access to a welder you could throw some extra support in there. I dont run the bumper support on mine right now due to the FMIC, but when I get to cutting it I will reinforce that biznatch.
I'll try and remember to post the pics of the bumper support for ya when I get off work. I dont know how well you can see the USDM support in the pic, so if someone can take a close pic of it I can get a good close pic of my JDM support since it's not on my car right now.

guys, if you really need a JDM bumper support, I can get them new and the price is not bad at all. its much easier to retain them with a FMIC . I have a JDM 180sx bumper support on my car with my FMIC because its not as hard to trim for the FMIC and its a much lighter bumper support. Ya the USDM one is more crash worthy but you pay for that in a 10-15 pound weight difference.
