ok my friend has a 97 camaro ss six speed with exhaust, free mods, rear end gears, chipped, eibach sportline springs, and K&N filter in the ram air box. ok heres the contes. 240 vs camaro in straight line no way yes i know this , but supposedly we are supposed to be able to beat the domestics i turns. This is not true . alright my 240 doesnt have suspension mods but its supposed to handle great stock. but last night we were driving in the camaro on some twisties and he decidd to show how good his car handles.ok i almost sit in my pants. i realized while w were going through(to give you a example the s's in road atlanta) a little less but not much , we were cruising through those at 100!!! no tire squeling or any thing it was solid. alright heres the question can a 240 do the same with just lowering springs and the same speed? this is the same mod the camoro had suspension wise. thanks guys and if any of you live in georgia let me know if you can do better i would like to see cause im trying to find smethingi can beat him in PLEASE!!!!!!.
thanks

"Take em in the twistiez" is a myth.

The newer F-Bodies contrary to popular belief are not non-turning pigs. They actually handle quite well and with suspension mods extremely well. I believe that the ss has a better suspension setup than the z28 and massive 235 tires IIRC. As well as a couple hundred HP on you. Tough to beat point for point, even with a well set up 240.

If you really want to show your friend what's up start taking advantage of any track events, HPDE's, Autocrosses. Because no matter how many mods you have there is no substitute for a good driver. I have seen C5's among others rolled by 240's on track. 1% car 99% driver.

If your car was lowered and had tires that big, you could keep up with him.

I would imagine the handleing abilities of a car would matter more and more the tighter the turns become and the distance between the turns. If its a tight turn (assumeing here that the 240 can out handle the ss) and the 240 can carry more speed through the turn then it will, of course, beat the SS through the twisties. But if theres a long straight after, or even high speed corners we most likely won't stand a chance...we'll beat them in that corner just to be passed again on the straight. ~100hp can easily overcome a small weight and handleing disadvantage in most situations.

Just guessing here but you'd prolly beat him in a solo-2 course assumeing = driver skill. [again, assumeing the 240 can out handle the SS]

its amazing what gm did with the f-body and a solid axel. the muscle cars of today are not the handling pigs everyone thinks they are. id say you still dont have a chance

I feel that when it comes to turns it's all driver skill. Yes a modified car helps but if you have a crappy driver all the mods in the world are not going to help.

I have a couple friends from Japan that can do better things in rent-a-car than most "import racer" do in their supposedly modded out civic/integra/etc.

So when someone says "my car is supposed to handle better than such and such car...." Well that may be true if the same driver took both cars out and timed them. In a street race the reason why your car lost is simple the other guy was a better driver or knew his car better.

Ehh...I wouldn't say that. My friend, driving his sister's Volkswagon Beetle took my other friend, driving his modded (no suspension mods) in the twisties...how embarassing!

if u want to beat him u need 2 get atleast the same hp/lb ratio...even in "the twists"

he has musle power over you, but he's got bigger tire width, thus, bigger turning radius? challange him for a U-turn contest, and after he losses, convince him that u-turn is the thing u'll need in real life, not a corner @ 100mph

wiht a larger tire with he has more friction makeing sure he doesn spin out in a u turn...so he may still win

I asked him about his tires and they are 275-40-17s all around, but hes going up to 315-35 17s in the back next time he needs new rubber because he will need more traction to help hook with his new nitrous kit . He also has done several autocrosses and track days, so hes a pretty good driver with a good deal of experience. So theres no chance of me beating him huh? Oh well....one day...
