ok so yea, i need a daily driver.
HAS to be: reliable and $7000 or less
i'd LIKE it to be: black, sedan, 6 cyl, newer semi-luxury or older luxury
so i'm looking at camrys and accords, and some lexuses like GS300 and ES300
what else is out there that i should be considering?

i find 3rd and 4th gen maximas to be a much more exciting drive than most of their competition. should be easy for 7k.

J30 may be a good candidate.
I dont' like the accord as much as to the Maxima... The older Acura TL/CL (whatever) aren't that reliable either...
Camry is reliable as hell, but it's ugly IMHO.

Subby Legacy. That's my vote. Perfect DD.
Or a Camry like I have. Reliable as hell!

go V8! gas has dropped a lot; then rose a little...so technically, dropped a bit...hehe...
G50 Q45!!! Y33 Q45s are cool too...or an LS400!!! UCF20/21 only IMO...but if your set on a six banger then id go with the GS...

FWD is such a hassle with maintainence and just doesnt have that truly sporty feel
J30 only comes in automatic and I personally cant handle that
BMW is the only one I can honestly think I would want..The maintainence is a bit of a bitch compared to Japanese cars but how solid they feel and beautifully they drive its almost worth the problem. Q45 would be nice as well but you diddnt make it sound like you wanted something that big. Just be a badass and get the j30 and convert it to manual, a bit more work but that'd be cool and fun.

buy my caaaaaar... well one like it. 92 190E 2.6L it's SMALL but it's lux because it's a benz >:P, it's been my daily driver since i started driving... gotta say my first car and in a way my first love. echo thinks my car's nice for a cruiser. soooo yeah. go! go!

Older Caddy STS V8
Its big, heavy, FWD, and bad on gas. But it is a pretty fun car.
It can do small slides, and slightly bigger ones in the rain.
It is also faster(straight line) than a 240sx.

i think you should just wait a year.. and save a little more money and buy a used scion xb... they do crazy gas mileage and they are pretty roomy.. if you like the style and dont worry too much about going fast then this is a great car.. one other downside is theres basically no trunk space.. just my 2 cents

I am agreeing with the people calling off Maximas, and I still like the older boxy GS Lexus

+1 for Q45... drewl, as I told you on AIM, I'd also look at the G20.
If I was gonna get a daily, it'd prolly be a G20 or a Civic hatchback... the base model.

GS300 if you wanna roll baller status :)
2JZ is very well built, and easy to work on. I plan on upgrading myself as soon as I sell my two kids.

i don't need a fun car. i have a racecar for that.
i need a car that doesn't really temp me to mod it or drive hard. maybe vip style is ok, but whatever
that's why i want an auto sedan. just a commuting/no-hassle get somewhere car. i felt so silly yesterday in my nice office clothes in my stickered up fc with lumpy idle waiting in the jack in the box drive through line.
i need a daily driver asap, so i can take apart my fc for the chassis build and engine swap, and because the engine is falling apart faster than i can fix it now. and i'm so sick of commuting in that car.

I'm getting a Jetta. It's got trunk room for 4 corpses, and the rear seats drop down, so you could have 6-8 pretty easily. I think it'll carry the desk I'm going to buy once I get the car, too.
Also, it's (to me) comfortable to drive, and the 1.8T isn't lethargic (it's a 15 second 1/4).

I'm a bit skeptical about German electronics. I often see Audi/VW/BMW come in next door for repeated electrical grimlins. Especially the late 90s models are so prone to failure it's not even funny. Unless you're buying a new one, STAY AWAY. I mean you don't have to, if you like to fix these sorts of problems. But from the beginning of time VW has a rep of electrical failures.
Andrew Bohan
01-11-2006, 09:46 AM
i'm well aware of problems that german cars have... i love them when they work right, but damn, not worth having an older one (to me). right now i'm driving howard's '01 E320. i love it. i'd get one or an E500 if i could trust it to last as long as it should for the price.
i'm looking at sc300's now too, even though it's a coupe
i think it's gonna end up being a camry though. it's not luxury, so i can get a better/newer one for the same price as a little bit older lexus, and everyone i've talked to seems to think it's a good choice.

LS400 or Q45. they are comfortable and take as much fuel consumpation as GS300. they are expensive to modify or fix up too.
you can also try a 95 merceds benz C280

Definately a Maxima or q30. My wife's 92 Max has 236,000 miles on it and still does over a hundred with the greatest of ease. Get a 5 speed, or if you want an auto for comfort and laziness :D
Very nice black leather interior and blown shocks make it all cooshy. Get the "sport package" Maxima with the tinted tail lights, spoiler, white gauges, and fog lights and put some s14 SE wheels on it for under $3000.

I know the feeling about feeling silly, but I think its kind of fun being dressed really nice (just short of suit/tie for my job) in my riced integra w/shocker emblams in morning traffic, heheh. But to each his own so..
MAXIMA all the way. I basically learned to drive on a 1997 Maxima SE auto. Took a shitton of abuse, was fun but still looks nice on the outside, can have semi luxery interior like leather. Handles great for a FWD,esspecially being a sedan I was really surprised. Really reliable, and just soo oh so smooth to drive. Unless you've driven a couple ,don't write it off. I love maximas. My sister in law had a 1993 Maxima SE auto w/every option...thing just wouldn't die...
CLIFFNOTES: Maxima=cheap,no hassle,looks great,nissan(woot) semi luxirous(sp)
