lol... you didn't know. THat thing has been talked about for 2 years now. It is just another thing for the super-yuppie... and it wouldn't surprise me if that BMW version ends up being faster... personally the race to the fastest vehicle that has 6 inches ground clearance doesn't seem intelligent to me.. but whatever. Yuppies will be yuppies.

Actually the Porsche Cayenne will have to take the backseat to the second fastets suv cuz Cadillac has just came out with the Escalade XS-500 the worlds fastest suv it has just over 500 hp. I drove by the local Cady and they had just gotten the XS-500 its one beautiful truck.

ahh but nothing beats a Hummer can drive through walls and over just about anything .

Nothing beats a Hummer in off-road capability, but if you've looked at what SUV's are selling like hot cakes nowadays, off-road performance means squat. In the areas of speed and comfort - the areas most important to your typical SUV consumer, you couldn't be more wrong. Everything beats the Hummer.

That's retarded; like anyone buying this will EVER off-road this thing.

What a waste of money.

am i the only one that thinks this whole project is a bad move for porsche........that is, unless they are struggling financially, which i don't think they are.

You are not alone at all. I think it's an incredibly dumb move, and while chatting with a Porsche salesman, I even got him to admit he agreed. He said he used to enjoy saying, "The only thing we sell is sports cars", and now he can't anymore. It's a terrible move for what it does to their image.

They are supposed to be producing nothing but the greatest handling two-doors money can buy, and now they make this ugly piece of junk. It's just not right.

Even if it's not ugly or not a piece of junk to you, it's still not a "Porsche" as far as I'm concerned just because it wears a Porsche badge. Porsche used to be an ideal, used to have character, used to stand for something. Now they're just following a trend.

I mean, I understand companies are supposed to follow trends, but those are mainstream companies; Porsche isn't a trend-following kind of outfit. At least, it isn't supposed to be. They're supposed to do one thing and do it well and leave it Chevrolet to offer variety.

Porsche, you're supposed to be offering unparalleled individuality and style. I hang my head in shame for you. In shame.

I don't think they're as on top of things as they would like to be as far as money goes.

Of course, I'm not saying the thing won't sell. Oh, yuppies and yuppie pupppies (kids who get cars for the 17th birthdays - you know who you are) will gobble the thing up. I'm not saying it's a bad move financially; I'm saying it's a bad image move.

It's like a talented artist spending his time painting the outside of your house. Sure it'll look good when he's done, thus doing everything a well-painted house should do. And, sure it's beneficial financially to the artist. But the point remains that he sacrificed part of the soul of what he does.

That, in a nutshell, is what Porsche did by making an SUV.

i agree. every Porsche/VW collaboration seemed good on paper, but never really resulted in sales figures, and lacked the original Porsche enthusiasm.

Case in point:

The 914

The 924/928/944 Front Engined Water Cooled GT's

The Cayenne................... (only time will tell its fate)

btw, i dont think horsepower is the main key to determining speed. the porsche will probably be a bit lighter, and will be geared differently. sure the escalade makes more power, but i dont think we can say the war is over yet.

yes, porsche lost its aesthetic integrity when it announced this...they jumped on the bandwagon a bit late too...I'd definitely take a pathfinder over a cayenne (note how the porsche cayenne and vw colorado both use american names...seeing that no one in their right minds in europe would buy an suv other than a land rover or something)
it really makes me sick to think about the big whigs sitting around a conference table saying "we need to get in on this suv thing"...damn target markets

the porsche SUV has been a long time waiting, the front end is the same as a carrara, they told the public a while ago. it is sad that all car manufacture had to go w/ SUV, even... porsche... but a fast suv isn't very smart IMO, unless porsche made some mad suspenstion/traction system like the MERC

i think its crap that porsche is making an suv...i cant even pronounce the god damn name! anywho i think i pretty much agree w/ everyone. porshe has broken its prestigious tradition of making exellent sports cars. plus its not a true porsche...the engine is in the front not in the rear like a porsche should be. Honestly it looks good for an suv if not a bit tall. the best looking suv IMHO and fast too..but its fast for an suv and thats whats is always gonna be said about it.."yeh its fast, for an suv". i dont even consider it a porsche, just something vw mandated them to do or else
