im going black interior because i hate the teal...when i got the car, the lower portion of the panel would pivot when grabbing the handle to close it...apparently, my previous owner didnt know about action/reaction...so inevitably, the three lower mounting holes tore through...

now im replacing it with a black one, but noticed massive rust on the screws, washers, (that were still screwed in the door) and mounting hole on the door...the threads are still fine and functional, but im known to be anal and want to get rid of it...whats the most efficient, least messy, best way to get rid of this topical rust?

maybe i cant tell from the rust, temperature, or darkness, but arent the threads a plastic insert that goes into the inner skin? in any event, any info or advice would serve benefical for furture reference regardless of this situation...

stupid question/motive, but you do it once and you dont have to worry/do it ever again...

Pretty sure you can find something in the hardware store, lowes or home depot.

just use anti seize compound and clean the threads with a wire brush if you are really anal

remember anti seize is your best friend with old cars :)

I just did this yesterday to my wheel studs. i clean the threads from dirt and grease with some good ol wd-40 and a wire brush, then i used some naval jelly (let it sit for a good 5 min). Finally brush and clean off threads. finally, using antiseize is prolly a good preventitve measure (might be overkill, but i put some on every time i take my wheels off and put them back on.)
good luck!

it's been said 100 times, but i used wd-40 and some coarse steel wool. i used it on the screws that held my bumper on... some were too rusted beyond repair so i had to use zipties... oh well

10 zipties = 1 screw

might as well get new hardware. Scrubing it with steel brush/wool will mess up the tread, unless you're careful, but then again, the rust wont come off if youre to gentle.

Pick up this stuff called Osphro. I think thats how its spelt. Or there is stuff called Jasco's. There practically the same thing. These are used excessively in Hawaii cause all the rust we get. Just brush it on and wait for the rust to turn Black and wirebrush then paint with an enamel or primer sealer. I have used a whole bunch on my older 240. WOrks wonders and is pretty cheap to. Napa should have it. thats where i get mine.
