Interesting to see some higher end oils being tested:

That's a nice little biased article...Did anyone read the other 9 things for "free horsepower"?? Number 5 was interesting...removing the exhaust. Not that that's particularly interesting, but heres a quote directly from that part:
"Since this 240 still had the original "choke" exhaust system used on the factory KA24E (KA=Kan't Accelerate), it's no wonder we saw a big increase in power."
Whoever did this article just lost their credibility in my eyes...fuck KA bashers...
Maybe a little off topic, but its not a very useful article anyways considering its sponsored by Royal Purple and suggests using their oil for free HP...whatever.

We just tried royal purple synthetic motor oil in my sister in laws auto focus ZX3 hatch, and I kid you not when I say at cruising rpms we were a solic 100rpms less then with regular oil. Thats the only real thing I personally experienced, she said she got slightly better MPG too

for some reason i think the redline was better the royal seems to burn faster or somethin, like i have to change my oil more often

i run castrol or whatevers actually I've noticed an increase of mileage since i changed my diff, tranny and engine oil and got a new clutch. I figured changing the diff and engine oil so often using a lower end oil doesn't matter that much

So I started reading that Royal Purple review and I came across this part.
"If you have an intercooled, turbocharged engine, consider upgrading the intercooler to the biggest that can possibly fit on the vehicle."
Whoever wrote this doesn't know what the hell their talking about as far as intercoolers are concerned. Wow.....I'm amazed.

^^ Can you explain this?? Generally a certain speed equates to a certain RPM. The only way for the RPM to be lower at the same speed is if the kickdown were activated or maybe the torque converter were not locked up, which would be more than 100rpm. At least that's how I understand it. It may take less effort and fuel to reach/maintain a certain speed... Unless the vehicle has a CVT. Maybe that's possible. I don't really know the function of the CVT too well.
I don't doubt the slight increase in mileage, but the RPM thing just doesn't make sense to me.

Big deal.....
Synthetic oil is good for rev, longevity, and it's less viscous than standard oils...
What was the point of that thread??????
I agree with docrice, the article was biased, and many of the issues they discussed kept me scratching my head......
Royal purple isn't the only synthetic around. There is also Lucas Oil, castrol syntec, mobiltech, Redline, (yadaa, yadaa, yadaa). The truth is that it is synthetic oil and there will be very small differences in the compositions of each synthetic oil on the market, (although some companies claim to add detergents). Might as well buy the cheapest one that you can find and gain those fractions of a donkey.

I always used Mobil 1 Full syn all my life.. and recently moved to Royal Purp.
To tell you the truth.. IMO, I couldnt feel the difference.. Just feels great when I do a oil change and run the car.. But the major difference IMO is, that Royal Purp... is uh... grape purple? Hype is Hype.. But I get plugs on Royal.. So I take the oppurtunity..
