I'm wiring a new head unit, my other one got fukd up. I'm starting from scratch not using any wires from the old one.

Ok so, I get my + hooked up to a previous ignition splice, then grounded via the antenna, and hook the constant through the lighter power.
It works, turns on, I touch some wires together to check my speakers and it's going good.

The next day I get in my car and try to hook it up the same way and it's not turning on...
Whip out the multimeter--
The lighter power wire isn't reading any voltage, everything else is.
So I wire it up to the next closest thing, the 'security' button behind the center console, I'm thinkin hey thats always on right?

It works.

So now I have a non-working lighter...
Theres a black wire and an orange/green (or something close) wire coming out of the lighter plug and the constant is the orange green one.
Those wires run together with a whole nother group of wires into a harness and it runs back behind the steering column and up in that shit...
Following that wire seems to be some big work...

Does anyone have any idea why my constant lighter wire doesn't work right now?
Things I could check?
Thanks

check fuses
you probly put to much load throu the lighter wire and blew fuse

ive had the same problem before fixing a persons car who's radio got stolen and the thief cut all the wires in the radio and cig lighter...check all the fuses to make sure they are all good. the positive on the cig lighter wire should only read +12V with the ignition in the on or accesory positions because that wire is not a constant. and if you think that dat positive wire got shorted to ground and keeps popping the fuse, you can run a continuity test with the multimeter to search for ground...good luck

Correction -- The 'security' button only retains power when the car is off or in ACC, not on... Damn

Pardon the question, but where is the fuse for the lighter?

Thanks

the positive on the cig lighter wire should only read +12V with the ignition in the on or accesory positions because that wire is not a constant.

Thats not a constant wire? I thought it was... I've wired it as constant through other cars...
If it isn't, any suggestions for a constant?
Thanks

isnt a +12V constant always going to read +12V all the time, a wire dats hooked up directly to the battery, dats why its called a constant...and a +12V IGN will read +12V when the key is on the ON or ACC positions? im sorry if im wrong, but dats what I meant...my bad

Bony you are correct. I had thought that the lighter was one of those constant wires, however.

I found a constant anyways, no need to worry about that now.
I didn't hook it up to this, but can anyone confirm that the hazard button is wired through a constant?
Mine is, but the previous owner fucked so much wiring up back there it was already spliced.

Anyways, seems like it should be, hazards work when the car is on the side of the road keys in your pocket.

Now wheres that lighter fuse?

Now wheres that lighter fuse?
:bowrofl:
Check the FUSE BOX thats in the drivers side kick panel. Thats where the interior fuses are...

yeah I just didnt want to confuse you...the hazards do have a +12V constant
