ok i just finished dropping the sr into my 1992 240sx coupe and hooked everything up and wired it all accordingly to ht's wiring diagrams. the motor turned over fine but it wouldnt catch, itd catch a few times but just die out or buck and hiccup and die. i have spark and fuel and the injectors are firing i cant figure out what the problem would be, also the cam/crank angle sensor is all in one? could it possibly be the coolant temp sensor? i dont recall hooking a coolant temp sensor up (location)? all help is greatly appreciated :D

Temp sensor is right on top of the lower water neck. Go tru the usual checks: Compression, timing, sparkplugs, sticking fpr, leaky injectors.

It starts fine, but then it dies? Any smoking or puffing? Try checking for pressure leak in your system.

check timing. was it messed with? was the CAS removed?

Water temp sens wont effect it starting. I would reset the cas first. It sounds like the cas is outa line. Then i would make sure that the tps is reading properly. The tps shouldnt effect start up but it can in some cases.

Also keep this is mind. There is a wire out of the ecu that is used to change the timing and fuel when the motor is at startup phase. Please make sure that wire is hooked up. Sorry i dont have more info on it. but it basically makes the injectors act like a cold start injector.

perfect info i reset the CAS and it started right up but now the damn thing is running rich as hell. it doesnt seem to have any power in the midrange and seems to be boosting real low (im using the stock sr20 vacuum line with the orifice/restrictor in it connecting it to the stock cold pipe) and like you said coming out of my ecu there are these three wires from right near the self diagnostic area (red/black/white) and i have no idea what they do. i just cant figure out the bucking now around the midrange and i used shielded wire for the MAF sensor and the o2 sensor. all help is greatly appreciated guys! :bigok:

Sounds like you have a boost leak somewhere now.

i checked that too but everything is real tight, i pulled the entire stock sidemount system off the front clip and just put it onto the car i checked it over and checked it over again but i dont see any areas where a leak could be

It sounds like you have a boost leak becaue its is loosing PSI and breaking up. Did your clip come with fenders? If not it may be damaged in shipping.

i figured it out guys, apparently what i believed was true the ecu i had gotten with the motor was chipped and wasnt tuned correctly for the stock setup (which is what the harness coming out of the ecu was probably for switching maps, or datalogging or something). i swapped ecus with a known stock redtop ecu and the car now runs like a champ! :coolugh:
