Just recently after driving my car it stopped. So I try starting it and a lot of white smoke would come out of the exhaust when I try cranking the engine. I could also smell gas too. After I let the engine sit for 2 minutes I crank it again and it will start and run fine. I dont know what the problem could be with the white smoke.

white smoke is a sign of a bad headgasket. check your oil and coolant

IMO sounds like you have a small fuel leak... a little fuel pools up in the crankcase or cylinders and gets burned off after running it a little.
