i know no one will do what you request but i hope this helps you out....

"The Swimmer" opens on a humorous note: it "was one of those midsummer Sundays when everyone sits around saying, 'I drank too much last night,'" the narrator says. It is a beautiful summer day, and a large white cloud "like a city seen from a distance" is on the horizon. Neddy Merrill, a slender and young-looking man, sits beside the pool with a glass of gin. He decides that he could "reach his home ... eight miles to the south ... by water." He can swim home via the pools of the inhabitants of the suburbs where he lives. He names the string of pools the "Lucinda River " after his wife. Each of the pools that Neddy swims through represent his decline into alcoholism. By the end he is a full-blown alcholic with no hope of turning back and saving himself or his marriage. If you look at each of the pools seperately you should see how, as his alcohol abuse gets worse, the party-goers treat him differently (at first they offer him drinks, then they ignore him and let him get his own, and finally they refuse to give him any). the temp of the water is another indication as is the "look" of the pools. for example, the first pool is a private party, warm water, beautiful day, etc. about mid-way through the book the atmosphere at the public pool smells (like chlorine), looks bad (like a sink), is no longer a private party, water is described as "murk" and on and on. by the time he gets back home Neddy is a cold, wet, lonesome, almost naked wreck of a man who has a realization (maybe - the realization is debatable) of what has happened to him. the story takes place over a time period of years. you can tell because the seasons keep changing (the stars, the trees, etc.)you'll have to pull alot of stuff out of the descriptions because Neddy is a pretty clueless character. while there are other meanings in the story this should get you started. helpfull hint - you can probably limit the number of pools you talk about to around five that you think are most important.:blah:

8 bucks isn't even worth my time. Do yourself a favor and drop the class, that what I did for my Anthro class, Anthro is an utter joke, fuck I hate it. Regurgitating the teacher's opinions on paper is just a delight:rl:. Up the dollars and I'll consider doing it or else :gives: :wackit:
