nice, looked like a blast...where the action pics at?
OT: i see that GTO in pic 45 all over the place, does he actually track it?
The Evo forum complained of how some people were leaving trash and oil and coolant all over the pit area and didn't clean up after themselves.

sticking up for the evo crowd huh?...choose or die!...

Haha .. well, I have an Evo but know way too many people with FR cars to choose. :P
A lot of those guys are hardcore track guys so they had a bad time at the event because it wasn't very professionally put on, lack of instructors and disorganized compared to other track organizers. I heard first session had 11 outs? That's insane for a grip group.

Thundergrip was a great event. All drift noobs should show up cuz the practice time is insane! Just don't hit the outhouse...
I never drove on a track before and I didn't go off course once. I think the evos had too much power for their skills, doh!

i think the most important thing in racing is knowing what your car will do when you give it certain input.
second is knowing what input to give it.
i used to know my car well. now i have new coilovers and i have to relearn it. the handling is very different now. but i still didn't go off track...
i can't wait til next time. gonna be pimp

yea that event was awsome. Lol to the guy who took out the out house. That was funny. The first half an hour was kinda hectic, but the rest was ok. Oh and that evo guy who stopped his car on the racing line between 14 and 15 WTF!!!! Anyway be back there on the 8th.

that dude's name was Andy...i don't think he knew too much about cars, but his parents bought him an EVO...so...
honestly, it's a crappy car to start learning how to drive with, given its' awesome power and abilities are mostly going to waste.
It was his first track day, but he had gone to the "drivers education event".
He did offer to show me the line...lol
Yeah, the Evo is not a good car to learn on. All the electronics and LSDs work to correct for you a lot of the time. But if you know how to use it all, it is awesome. :) I think it gives the driver a false sense of ability and 90% of people can not even drive the stock cars to its full potential let alone when they are modified with more power.
If you guys are more serious about grip events, there's tons of track days every week. It is definitely good to have an instructor ride with you or ride with them and see how they drive.

You can check out the thunderhill calendar for events at thunderhill. Most lapping days will be with clubs and instructors for all of them are different depending on the group.

If you want standardized instruction check out the SCCA's Thunderhill High Performance Driving School.
NASA has a lot of driving school events too but they do it between racing sessions so it gets pretty crazy with race cars going on and off course and driving school between.
The quality of instruction can vary depending on who you get.I've had instructors that were very helpful and other people who will jump in your car, not say a word and afterward just say "that was fun!" and walk off. Some clubs will pair you off one on one, others will rotate different instructors throughout the day. I like having the different people because you get different points of view and can see some different driving styles.

THanks for the info!! I asked for a HPDE for christmas so hopefully I can get started driving on the track more often. It would be nice to change from an amateur enthusiast to a weekend club racer. TIme will tell but gret info!
