So I bought the Nismo diff insulator bushings on anticipation of installing a J30 diff into my '98 SE after my last diff gave up the ghost. Long story short, the bushings are out of the diff, and I can't figure out which way the bushings go in the "tail" or skinny part of the diff.

One of the pics is how I think it goes - anyone know for sure?

I would say that the "washer" part goes on the bottom. That's the way I installed my aluminum SPL bushings. Plus, the factory bushings go with the large part on top and the washer part on bottom.

I did it the way Alex suggested. Big mushroom part of the bushing pressed down into the differential hole and then capped w/ the washer in the bottom. Put a flat large washer between that and the bolt and have had no problems at all. I think I was just paranoid about hearing how the bolt heads were causing the S14/J30 diffs to drop and hang off the rear swaybar in S13's... you should be fine with yours though.

And if you didn't know... put the bushings in the freezer overnight, then you can press them into the diff by hand. Seriously... takes no effort at all.

Just make sure that you put them in the way you want them to face because you maybe have 5-10 min (depending on weather) before you can push them out again if you mess up. :x:
