Looking for some advice on suspension. I'm considering the H&R spring kit with God knows what shocks. Basically, a bit better handling without a major drop or major price. Any other springs around the 1" drop area that y'all recommend (also around the $200-250 mark)?

Next is shocks, whatever I get they have to be stiff enough to handle springs, no bouncing down the highway. I was thinking Tokico Blues or GR2s, but don't know which would be best around that price range.

Uh. . . help? Thanks :-)

anything over say a 1.5'' will be too much for tokico blues to handle i think. probably too much for GR2's as well. so you're not left with many options anymore. unless you have an S13, then you can get KYB AGX, GAB's (they're a pain to get), or Koni yellow's. all three of those will probably cost you over $400 or more a set.

but yes, you're on the right track, if you want a decent setup for not much money, spring shock combo is the way to go.

ive been pondering over this for months now myself. im going w/ KYB AGXs b/c they are cheap. www.k2rd.com has them for $340 a set!! thats a real popular site for the AE86 and FC guys... now springs, thats the difficult part. im thinking of going w/ whitelines, but they arent very stiff, nor do they have much of a drop. maybe an inch, inch and half... i think they are rated at 165 or so. id like to get some 5Zigen springs, but alas, they dont make them anymore! they are like 250-300 lbs!! so, what to get? i wouldnt get H&R just because they are mostly euro cars, so they probably didnt dump much R&D into our cars. Eibachs are good, but i dont like the variable spring rates. so thats where im at. i can have a good suspension set up for $600, now, ive just gotta figure out my springs...

Tokico blues and GR2s are right up my alley then if they aren't designed for more than 1.5" drop. The drop is more or less inconsequential. I like that price on the AGX, I'll look into those a bit more. What about Tokiko HP? How do these compare with the PP? I'm also seeing Tokiko springs around for the 240sx, but haven't been able to find much info on them other than they have a 1" drop.

As far as the H&Rs go, I need better than "They manufacture for European cars" to sway me from them :-)

What do y'all use, how do you like them? What don't you like about them? Tell me tell me! :-)

EDIT: Oh, and sportlines are out of the question. I still need to get in and out of my driveway. Prokits are closer, but still lower than I want to be. 1" good, 1.3" good, 1.8" bad Anybody know of a resource that will tell me spring stiffness?

This is a response to hurley....

I was looking for some springs myself, and I came across some KGMM S21 Supersports. They are linear, really stiff springs... I think they're somewhere btwn 4-5kg/mm in the front and 3-4kg/mm in the rear. I emailed jspec.com, and they said they could import a set for $350 dollars.

Pretty expensive, but those are some really good springs for racing.

hmm, those sound cool! but, they'd have to be matched with a strong ass shock, like a GAB or something like that. then you might as well get Teins. it would be about the same price. but w/ the KYBs, they'd still be cheap but you'd have to get shocks every week. ya know what i mean? im looking for about 200 lbs rated springs, so i dont kill the KYBs, but i still stay around $600. thanks for the info though. oh yeah, one more idea, RS*R springs are supposed to be pretty stiff as well... where can i get them?

well I am running KYB AGX's with HKS Super Sports , the KYB's would work well with the KGMM's but remember its going to be a very stiff setup. Hope you have smooth roads in your area.
The HKS's are progressive not linear but they only drop the car around 1.5 in the front and 3/4 to an inch in the rear. Overall my car is riding not bad the fronts rate out at 230 and the rears are 194 . Now I would have liked my rear to drop a little more and have been a little stiffer hence I am thinking of taking the Ground Control plunge since I have the AGX's alraedy.
Mike Mamos at Clear Corners runs the Tokico's and likes them a lot. those springs are pretty cheap at $80 a set right now.
YMMV
