I saw the weirdest thing,... my FSM says to use Dextron 3 ATF for my power steering. I asked a friend who has a Z31, and his FSM says the same for his. Have you checked to see if yours says this as well?

Using transmission fluid for the power steering... I wouldn't think that the steering systems gets that hot in which regular PS fluid isn't used.

Since the power steering unit has gears in it, it would make sense to use fluid that would also lubricate as well as be used as an incompressible hydraulic fluid. &nbsp;Automatic transmission fluid can do this.

IIRC (but I think I'm wrong): normal power steering fluid isn't as lubricative as tranny fluid.
