I've heard alittle about the SOHC VS. DOHC. I know the HP output on both. I was going to go SR but i kinda am trying to keep price down(school). So I'm probably going to go NA for a while so i didnt know if i should just build up my SOHC or go dual. My HP goal is somewhere with around 200-250.

Just when i though i was going to go dual, my friend said for mountain runs the SOHC has better gearing, and he gave me an example of how 3rd gear is perfectly set to do the course....and it is true, i stay in 3rd majority of the time.

ANY IDEAS!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

you are not going to be able to build a n/a ka that puts out 250 hp. you're talking about almost doubling the amount of power it puts to the wheels. even if you did build such a motor, it'd be a helluva lot more expensive then swapping a sr20det.

since you have a sohc and dohc sitting around, look up high compression ka24de.

otherwise, the cheapest route for power would be (imo) to junkyard turbo the dohc with low boost.

I dont think it sounds impossible to get 200HP out of a DOHC, thats 45HP more then stock and 55 more then stock on SOHC. Perhaps cams? Anyone knowledgible about building NA's?

Mostly the same. What aznpoopy is telling you is that there is a guy on these forums who has put LOTS of work into making his KA fast with NA. You will learn a lot searching.
For those power goals just turbocharge the SOHC. All the parts are out there. Check out www.ka-t.org for all the info you could ever want. No need to swap in a DOHC.

If you you want 250whp it's going to cost quite a bit for a DOHC N/A KA

JWT cams (don't forget adjustable cam gears), advanced timing to a legal 23BTDC, and ecu tune will get you 200CHP easily.

fact is none of that stuff is affordable unless you know biki rom, or rom burning........

I've seen 169RWHP with just header and ecu tune, it's not that hard, people are just lazy. OBD1 DOHC's you can do a bunch of free mods that make more power.

I think you've got a LOT of searching to do before you even think about touching your engine.

if you even have to ask.. n/a ka isnt cheap for you...... t25 kat will be more around your price range if you want to go cheap and add more power...

Actually a T28 would be much better for the 2.4banger.....
