Tranny won't go into reverse; all 5 gears fine.

I have an '89 SOHC with 177k miles. The car shifts smoothly from neutral to 1-5 but it will not go into reverse. It's almost as if there's no reverse gear, the shifter just won't move into the reverse position? Is it new tranny time, or is this an easy fix?

try putting it in first then put it in reverse.

That doesn't work. Bad reverse synchros maybe?

Try kicking the clutch a few times and revving it to 900 or so while trying to put it in reverse.

Probably is the syncros in tranny. And you just bought the car for 700 too. Good steal man!!!
