my 1 week old kragen PS pump failed, i wondering if using regular power steering fluid vs. ATF can cause this. is there a significant diff between the two? or is just cheap ass kragen parts?
q2- when replacing is there a specific way to take off the pump w/o getting air into the PS system? i read there is no specific way to bleed so does that mean its just unbold old bolt-on new?

Uhhh, yes. Use only the ATF, period.

I have removed the pump, opened the cap on the reservoir, replaced the pump, drained the fluid from the bottom, replaced the fluid slowly, starting the car and then turning the wheel with the cap still off. The FSM has a different method employed, but my method has worked on 2 cars as previous owners failed to use the right fluid, which was burned. Autozone parts have been installed for over 3 years on one and about a 2 on another.

As above, normal driving (or just running at idle while working the steering) will bleed it manually. If you turn the reservoir upside down you'll see it's not sealed, the air will escape freely.
