ok, ive been searching tirelessly for the answer to this question (google, 200sx fsm, 240sx forums, etc). i want to splice my boost and oil pressure gauges into the dash illumination wiring so they will light up and the brightness will be controlled with the dimmer switch along with the rest of the dash lights. well, finally i decided to pop off my gauge cluster and have a look, and i found three wires coming from the dimmer switch (rheyostat), a black wire, red/blue wire, and a red/yellow wire. so now im wondering which red wire i need to splice into to make this work. any help is much appreciated.
thanks,
bryan

buy defi gauges.. they're adjustable!

In order to adjust the brightness you'll have to use both feeds, however most gauges do not have a separate ground supply for the bulb. In that case, the red/blue is the illumination. If you do have a separate plug directly to the bulb tie the ground side to the red/yellow, this is the dimmer wire, otherwise it just goes to ground.

awesome, thanks for the info, r240na, you saved us some time. we just finally found the wiring diagrams for it in the fsm (its under interior lamp, el 106, not where we were looking earlier), and were racking our brains trying to figure out what it means for us (it seems r/l= red/blue, and r/y= red/yellow in case you are every trying to figure that out). so, to clarify, we can run our power wire (from the bulb) to the red/blue and the ground to the red/yellow and have our gauge work just like the dash lights.
btw, we couldnt use a multimeter to test these (probably wouldnt have told us what we needed to know anyways) because the engine is out and so is the battery.

Correct, but only if the bulb has a separate ground. For example Autometer gauges come with a bulb and it's own leads, whereas Greddy/HKS do not.
