View Full Version : Can't decide which exhaust system to buy...

OK, maybe someone here will have an opinion to help me decide. I am sure some people are going to say, oh no, not another exhaust post. Well here it is, and it won't stop becuase the main reason for a chat forum is to ask questions and give opinons. If some one has something negative to say about me posting another exhaust brand question or tells me I should have posted it some where else, so be it becuase they have a right to bust me for making a post they don't like, just like I have the right to post this question if they like it or not. With that out of the way, hopefully I can get some opinions without too much grief. I can't decide between the Tanabe Super Medalion Hyper Spec exhaust and the RS*R Ex-mag. I think the Tanabe might be better quality, plus I like the tip style a little more. I am worried that the Tanabe will be loud, but I have also heard that the RS*R is not as quiet as they brag about when used with the KA. It will be a while before I go turbo, so at the moment 80mm is more than I need, but I like the idea of quiet and the fact that the only thing polished on the RS*R is the tip. Really the only problem I have at this point is the pipe size and the tip on the RS*R. Well, that and the fact that its made in the states now for us. I am leaning towards the Tanabe, but not to many people know too much about it. Any input or advice on the two would be greatly appreciated. :ughug:

For me I'd get the RS*R Ex-mag because I want to keep as low of a profile as possible.

Both are nice. Tanabe will be more quiet, the RS-R more power. Personally, I would choose the RS-R.

Thanks for the responce so far. Still have a week before I can afford to buy my exhaust. Damn Nismo Frontier took a chunk out of my monthly 240 budget. Anyway, I would like to ask speedmonkeyinc, have you heard the Tanabe? I am curious if in your opinion if it sounds alright, or if it has a coffe can rasp? Just wondering, its sounds like you may have heard it because your opinion is that it will be quieter.

No I have not heard it. I just looked at a picture of it and saw that it has two mufflers. Also the 60mm pipes will make it quieter than the 80mm, one muffler RS-R.

Good call. I should have thought about that first. Shows how much I pay attention to detail. A tough call. I really like the apearance of the Tanabe better, and the idea of the quietest exhaust. However, like I was saying, I like the fact that the only polished area on the RS*R is the tip. Putting a polished exhaust on a soon to be 11 year old car that needs a paint job is like putting a large shiny piece of jewlery on dirty, underweight, no teath havin' ragety clothed woman. That was the best thing I could come up with. It will just stand out, and I don't like that. I really don't need 80mm piping, and I really don't need it after doing the SR swap becuase 2 1/2in piping is large enough for stock boost on the SR. I am not building a race car, I just want a nice, reasonably fast car to have fun in around curvy roads. I will probobly end up going with the Tanabe just becuase the RS*R piping is over kill for what I am looking for and I want quiet performance. Still, I value everyone's opinion though, so keep them coming...

if you order an exmag you won't get it for awhile. I ordered mine around the beginning of september and I still haven't received mine yet...

No. It sounds nice.
It isn't loud. With everything else stock (cat , manifold, etc.) , it isn't much louder than the o.e. system. Just deeper. That's probably why the only one I've ever seen is on my car.

Hmm, I really like the Blitz Nurspec Racing exhaust

but I'm really looking for a Trust DD or a Dart Izumi exhaust

Hey, someone please tell me what to buy for my car!
Everyone has different tastes. Nobody can tell you what you like, nor can they decypher what you like from your description. It'll mean different things to different people. Run a search for sound clips of exhausts and figure it out.

I was waiting for someone to put in their 2 cents. I wasn't asking for someone to tell me what to get for my car. If you read carefully I was asking for opinions on the two brands from people who have had experiance with one or the other. If consumer reports had something on after market exhausts I probobly wouldn't have to post this question. Unfortunatly last I checked they don't so I simply make a post such as this and get opinions for myself. See how it works now, what I am doing. And just to let you know it is working. I have already got pictures and info from both sides. I appreciate your opinon, just as I said I would in my original post, and I know there isn't anything I can do about it except give you mine about yours. I think you read the title and clicked the post. Once you were in you skipped over most of my original post becuase it was too long and just saw that other people were giving their opinions on exhaust systems. Next you made a snap judgement about what I was trying to gather from making this post and then tried to be a smart ass. Thanks for your time. Anyone else have anything to add to my original question I am still intrested.

No, I did read your post. And only you can really decide if you like either of the 2 exhaust systems.

Consumer reports may not have any articles with reviews of the exhausts you specified. But ZILVIA DOES. Your thread shouldn't be considered different because you said so. This is bullshit, SEARCH the fucking exhausts you want, THEN if you can't find them, make a thread.

"Hey everyone, I'm a newb, and I don't want to search. You guys can't flame me because I said so."

No, welcome to Zilvia. Stop being a lazy prick and search this shit. There are PLENTY OF EXHAUST THREADS. PLUS you knew it, but still decided to make your own thread instead of read. If you want to be spoonfed information I suggest going to Nico, or 240sxforums.

For the record. I don't care how old you are, how much money you make, what your plans are for the car, or how long you've had your car. Nor do I care what parts you have on your car. Stop being lazy and search, Zilvia has plenty of info if you FUCKING LOOK.

Ha, I knew it would only be a matter of time. I never said you couldn't flame me. In fact, I said there was nothing I could do about it. I really don't see what you guys get so upset about. Its not hard man, if you don't like my post then don't read it. I am sure when you looked at the title you knew it was another "newb" so you just had to chime in. Thats fine, it really doesn't hurt my feelings. If you think being an ass about it and calling me a prick is going to change the fact that people will keep making these posts you are wrong. All I was after was a couple of pics and some straight answers on two specific exhaust systems. All that I was asking is that if you really don't have anything to contribute other than name calling and a bad attitude than don't bother. I think its funny you people put so much thought into how you can "flame" someone becuase you don't like thier question. Its a chat forum, people are going to post the same questions in different was over and over. I don't know how many times I have to say this, I was just trying to get opinions from people that have the two exhaust systems. Thanks for the attention. I could say some things in responce to what you said about me, but I won't becuase I don't know you, just like you don't know me. Its funny how you people can see a post and judge me based on that. I bet if we knew each other in real life we would get along and have a lot in common, but because I made a post you don't like you hate me. Well thanks for your input. I will try to be less of a prick in the future so your hateful responce was not a waste of your time. I don't think you guys really read my post becuase if you had you wouldn't say things like, "You guys can't flame me because I said so." I invited it, and knew it was coming becuase there are people like you all over the internet wasiting to make yourselfs look big by "flaming" me. Have a great day. I hope you enjoy scanning the post for all the newbs making posts you don't like so you can "flame" them. You guys have too much time on your hands.

Oh, and for the record I AM NOT ASKING FOR PEOPLE TO TELL ME WHAT TO BUY FOR MY CAR, I AM ASKING FOR OPINIONS ON TWO EXHAUST SYSTEMS. DON'T HAVE ONE OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEMS I AM ASKING ABOUT FEEL FREE TO BUST ON ME AND KEEP MOVING THIS POST TO THE TOP SO EVERY TIME YOU LOG ON IT WILL BE RIGHT THERE T HAUNT YOU FOR EVER. ANOTHER EXHAUST QUESTION POST. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND LET THE POST DIE OFF IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO CONTRIBUTE.

That's enough of this. prjkt240, hopefully you got the info you needed, but this thread is only going to get worse and more Off Topic. So I'm ending it here. Good luck with your exhaust.
