View Full Version : Painting calipers....

I have a set of Z32 calipers that have been powdercoated black, but even the lettering has been powercoated black...which was completely unexpected. Besides going thru this person and having to pay to have them sanded and powercoated again (with clear over the exposed lettering)...I was wondering if there is a DIY solution. Really looking for a paint I can use to "touch-up" the lettering and can resist high temperatures.
Any suggestions and/or painting tips welcome.

scuff up the lettering a bit & paint over w/ either caliper or engine paint.
Or sand down the letters by hand, being careful not to sand other parts - then you'll eventually get a workable surface to paint on if required, something like wetsand 200 grit, 400 grit, 800 grit, 1000 grit, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion on wetsanding. It will be kinda tough to do it by hand...small letters and what not. Maybe using a dremel would be good?

i used a small wire wheel attached to my drill, have to be careful with that (fronts cause they have grooves) and for the rears i just used a blade, then sanded em' down

if you have one that spins slowly, but you'd prolly need a brush tip and that might get messy if you don't have a steady hand.

a block (wood, angle iron) something flat, and sand it down... keeps it nice and level
