That lower engine cover on my s13 is a pain in the ass. Anyone ever remove it? I don;t mind more dirt getting under there, I can clean that regularly. I jist don't know if it serves a real purpose.
Jeff
the lower engine cover is part of the cooling system. I would try to leave it.

You mean the big black cardboard thing? I thought it was to help deflect rocks, etc from the engine bay while also allowing for better underbody airflow?
If not, what are you talking about?

It's called a slash gaurd and I wouldn't remove it if I were you. It keeps all the sh*t on the road from jumping in your engine bay and reaking all types of havoc. Yes it is completely in the way when trying to do mods or service but do your best to leave it.

Had my clutch replaced on the old car once, after I got the car back I heard this weird ass noise whenever I would drive. Came to find out he had left 3 or 4 bolts of the damn thing and it was dragging all along the road <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> so I bolted what I could back up. 4 months later get an intake and end up tearing 1/3rd of the bastard off just to put the filter on the end lol.
Edit: Not 3 or 4 bolts off the clutch (im not that retarded, but bolts from the splash guard.)

the use for that piece of plastic.:
cool the motor at high speeds
deflec objects that may come up into the engine bay
protect the oil pan from damage.
u are problably saying "cool the motor?"
yep it does . with the air duct that is in the front bumper it flows air through and on top of the plastic piece which keeps air from escaping after it hits the front of the engine.

I've dropped a few sockets in the engine bay.. I guess that's where they're all at..
