Hey everyone,

I'm in desperate need of a new exhaust. I have a 95' 240sx LE. Non-Turbo KA. I need an exhaust that is somewhat quiet or suttle. I've heard about the HKS Hi-Power (with 2.5'' piping for NON-TURBO) which is what I originally considered but it's on back order.

I looked into the "quietest exhaust" thread (so I did search....) and the posts were mainly about a quiet exhaust for a TURBO'ed car. I did notice that 'nosterdomis' (thank you very much for your pm's) mentioned that the Apex'i GT Spec on a KA is pretty quiet even without silencer for a Non-Turbo'd KA even though it's piping is freakin' huge.

I have posted on other boards like NWN... a lot of people just assumed that it would be loud due to the size of the piping but 'nosterdomis' did mention that due to the design of the muffler, that it would be quiet on a Non-Turbo KA.

Does anyone else have experience with the Apex'i GT Spec on a Non-Turbo KA? Also, I just want to confirm that there wasn't a GT Spec made for a Non-Turbo with smaller piping?

Thank you all very much!

Barry

It's loud. Yes it's loud. Not piercing loud, but a very deep tone. I could hear it rumbling a several blocks down. If you're not looking for a loud exhaust, don't get this. Without the silencer, driving on the highway is a one long drone.

this was mine.

The actual GT Spec does not look like this picture....

http://www.apexi-usa.com/graphics/products/1813.jpg

I remember when I was buying the GT Spec 3 years ago I was looking at those pictures and it's exactly what I wanted. The actual exhaust has a resonator toward the back contrary to those pics. The resonator looks like the one on the HKS Hi-power exhaust but all stainless....

I really have no idea what you should do. The GT Spec is 3.75" vs. HKS 2.5". From what I always thought for NA cars 2.5" is the way to go but there was an article somewhere around here that proved that wrong.

Personally my favorite exhaust is the URAS RS for any motor. Loud as hell though.

ive been told from numerous people who have had them to not run it on NA...its loud and alters your powerband significantly due to the multiple changes in piping diameter throughout the catback...but thats what ive been told, never had first hand experience with it...dont plan to either...unless down the road, you tell us otherwise...

It's loud.

Compared to..

Blitz Realize TT.
URAS RS.
SS autochrome.
custom 2.5" with Tenabe muffler.

The GT Spec is by FAR the quietest. I have no idea how it fares with others.

Get this Fujitsubo exhaust and modify the hangers to fit your s14. Fujitsubo is top notch and regarded as one of the best sounding exhaust systems. I recently sold my Altair exhaust which was similar to the Fujitsubo and that thing sounded amazing.

It's not the quietest, just a much different tone. It's much deeper than the ones you listed. If that's your idea of quiet, then sure its quiet, but it's still loud. Autochrome = Uras basically.

Yeah pretty much what he said. It's definitely deeper as opposed to a loud piercing sound. I would say that if we were to measure dB’s on a meter the GT Spec would be quieter and definitely quieter at WOT, it would be deeper but quieter on the meter. Yeah I know the URAS is the same style as the Autochrome but I tell you this…the URAS fits mint. Those exhausts are the style I like; they are very functional as far as performance gains but damn loud. Whatever.

RS*R GT2 (with silencer) or RS*R Ex-Mag

BTW...the GT Spec will be loud and you will eventually be annoyed with it.

probably turbo. besides you can't really tell GT-spec from N1 unless you look closely. If you want quiet get a pacesetter. super cheap and 2.5-inch piping and quiet.

I had put one on my 91 s13 that was completely stock and felt like i lost a good 10% in power by seat of the pants. I tried it for like a month then just gave up and putit back to stock. But sound wise it was fine way quieter than my n1 duals.

I just bought a APEXi Evo N1 cat back. Right now its going to be on my KA24E but then RB20. Question is, is it going to be very loud? I dont want to be driving on the highway with a annoying sound.

Its not that loud. I had Evo N1 on my Integra couple years back and it wasnt that loud.

two of my friends had it on their na ka's and it was definitely alot more quiet then several exhausts i had heard, one was on a twin cam 93 and sounded quite nice with a deep tone but wasnt too loud even at wot, my other friend had it on a single cam 89 and it still wasn't that loud it actually may have been more quiet. we'll my friend sold his twin cam motor and now has an rb and he still has the same gt spec on it and its one of the nicest sounding exhaust's i've heard.

I have one on my S14. It is very deep. Yes you can hear it and it will set off car alarms in garages. To me it is not too loud. It drones on the highways but when I go 80 it gets really quiet. With the silencer it is quiet as hell I think. As for power loss, I didn't notice any. But I really don't know unless I strap it on a dyno. It is a nice exhaust, get it. Especially if you plan to turbo later.

I thought we had already seen numerous dyno sheets showing NA 3" > 2.5"

wow thats interesting but yet makes sense. So for turbo charged cars 3.5" would be good too? Cause my piping is 3.5" and 4.5" tip.

GT is loud period. its deep....its WRX deep....deeper i'd say. its like UPS truck loud...not like a civic with stock piping and welded on muffler loud.
