View Full Version : Subframe bushing spacer GB

I'm putting together a group buy on alminum subframe bushing spacers. They were orginally made for the Z32 but since the 240SX shares the same subframe as the Z32, we can also use them. I have them on my 98 S14. They are awsome to say the least. It took about 45 minutes to install. The car feels stiffer, and the wheels seem to stay planted a quite a bit better. The spacers are made by Greg Dupree. Some of you may know him as the best Z mechanic in California if not anywhere. They usualy sell for $80 plus shipping but If I can get at least 10 people to jump in, I can get them at $70 shipped.

This is how Greg Dupree describes them,

'What the spacers do is preload the stock rubber bushings so the body does not float separately from the subframe. Stock, the body floats about an inch before the suspension does anything.

One of the reasons Zs wheel hop is because the sub frame is mounted loosely causing the sub frame to bounce up and down.

Preloading the stock bushings results in much more responsive handling and also greatly reduces wheel hop. Also by retaining the stock rubber mounts you're still Isolating noise and vibration, verses replacing them with solid aluminum or delrin.

This is a simple, do-it-yourself mod that will take less then an hour to install with a
Floor jack, a 14mm and 17mm socket and ratchet.

This simple mod will accomplish the same thing the expensive sub frame bushings do.
And without having to go through the hassle or expense of removing the subframe <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>'

They are available in anodized red or blue.

As of today, the buy is open and I'll be closing it on Tuesday, May 21.
If you have any questions or you would like to get in, I can be reached at [email protected] or my cell phone at (714) 328-6977. Thanks for you interest

Who are these made by? 300Degree.com (http://www.300degree.com)?

If so, the cheapest I have seen them go for is $200 @ &nbsp; EatRiceZone.com (http://www.eatricezone.com)

Who is the one doing the group buy? PLMK! Thanks

The units made by 300degrees are actual aluminum subrame bushings. &nbsp; To install those you would have to remove the rear subframe completely and burn out the old bushings. &nbsp; Its a very expensive thing to do and i've heard they ride incredibly harsh. But I dont know for sure. &nbsp; These are made by a local Z mechanic in So Cal. &nbsp; His name is Greg Dupree. &nbsp; These are basically spacers that precompress the subfame bushings so that your subfame is held tighter the the chassis. &nbsp; Its an easy install as well. &nbsp;Took me 45 minutes to install them on my S14. &nbsp;I havent put them on my Z32 yet though. &nbsp; They are great for drag racing as well. &nbsp; If you've ever had that irritating wheel hop during burnouts and launches, this will help to get rid of it. &nbsp;I'm putting the group buy together. &nbsp; You can reach me at [email protected] or my cell at (714) 328-6977. I'm not likely to answer the phone if I'm at work still though.

ok, just put them in now. took about 30 mins. very easy!

first impressions
my old subframe bushings are definately shot haha..
putting these in helped a lot

firstly, my wheel shake is dramatically reduced. i used ot have to grip the steering wheel hard when braking around 55 or so. now, the wheel is much straighter and i can pretty much let the wheel go and feel safe (not all the way let go, but just barely grip it)
i also acclerated from about 25 to 80 on a small strech just keeping the hand on the wheel (other hand holding phone hehe) and i was driving straight

since my bushings were shot, there is a "clunk clunk" sometimes, but it is not serious or a nuisance, but i will find out more when i put my rear seat back up, cut back on some of that noise (I DONT HAVE ANY REAR INTERIOR) and drive it more. there is also more vibration in the rear, but i can notice that because a lot of stuff i have in the back was already (ALREADY) vibrating, so now i can hear it more, i am just too lazy to tighten things up and figure it out (specifically the rear speaker cover).

Worth the money? DEFINATLY. damn, getting rid of those shakes is great. i'm very pleased with that! i guess it wasnt my rotors after all!! i much better braking before and in turns and on the freeway. feel so much safer and more comfortable.

if someone has a question beyond this, please ask.

my car:

1992 240sx fastback
base model (few upgrades, s14 seats, momo steering wheel, greddy shift knob--whoopie)
burgundy
very slow
no other suspension mods (next month, much much more)

are the ony advantages of these over solid mounts noise reduction? also will solid mounts perform better? if my stock mounds are shot should i replace them? which would require burning them out anyway.
lastly how do these compair to the white bushings that pdm sells?

i think the stock ones require burning out, which means dropping the subframe from the car-time and labor (lots of it)
i dont know how they compare with the PDM, i dont know anyone who has them.

I would have to say that its always better to replace something if its shot. As far as I know, you will have to burn them out and its not an easy job. I really dont know how the spacers will react with bushings that have leaked. I have never been in a car that has solid bushings. Everything that I have heard about them says that they are very harsh. Very rough. There is basically no dampening on the subframe. The spacers are a mid range solution. You can feel them but they wont annoy you. The Whiteline bushings from PDM are softer. Think of it this way, stock is stock. PDM is a bit firmer, mine are still a bit firmer, and solid is the firmest. You have to decide what stiffness you want. I hope this helped.

i dont know how many people joined this yet
but i did. 70 bucks..sure as hell didnt break the budget!
i like them a lot.
its firmer going around corners hard and doesnt jeopardize the day to day ride. took a bit (couple days) to soften up a tad, but i like them a lot now.
install took about 30 mins, torqued it down to spec (as in directsion) and all set. very easy

incase you are thinking "Hey, its not JDM" then you should be slapped. if you have the HYPER REV Vol. 49 (S15 silvia book), page 151 and 152 is ALL bushings (like these on this group buy).

companies like:

URAS (monkey magic), Top Secret, Prince, Speed RUnner, Cockpit, GTO, M's Factory, HKS Kansai, East Bear, ATTKD, TEX modify, Cusco, Yashio Factory, BM7, Tukasaki, ATTKD, Nismo

all these companies make these type of subframe bushings! obviously they work!!

yeah, its common upgrade in japan. so i reallly, hope that's not the reason people arent buying them though, just because its not "JDM" because that's so pathetic..

and if you say "PDM is 5 dollars cheaper." Um, bro, PDM is in canada. if you have wells fargo like me then you get a surcharge for out of the countyr, then you pay UPS from outside the country..your looking at around $80-90 dollars.

anyway, thats all. i dont mean to sound harsh, but this is SO CHEAP, if you dont have 70 dollars, then you should get a second job or something.

i dont think i could have spent it better. Easy, fast, noticable upgrade that enjoy quite a bit.

It precompresses the rear subframe bushings. It keeps it from floating around. You will have much less wheel hop and a tighter rear end in general. If you have any other questions, email me at [email protected] I get the emails faster and I can usualy get back to you pretty quick. Thanks.

They come with instruction. &nbsp; The install is the same for Z32, S14, and S13. &nbsp; Its probably one of the easiest installs you'll ever do. &nbsp; It took me 45 minutes because I was taking my time. I've done it in under 30 minutes for a friend. &nbsp;Email me and I'll give you the details. &nbsp;[email protected]
