Im having a heck of a time trying to remove this thing. I tried twisting it for like an hour. Eventually the rubber came apart and there was a hard plastic shell. So when I tried tewisting that it just fell apart. Know I see that its metal. now what? I tried twisating but nothing so far. Any ideas?

Wrap a rag or something around it, and use channel-locks/ pipe wrench/something along those lines. Though I guess if you have already destroyed the knob, you could skip the rag, lol.

1. Channel locks on the shifter stem
2. channel locks on the shift knob
3. use brute force.

Yeah it definitely sucks. I hope you were replacing the stock knob with something being the purpose of taking it off. Your best bet is to do what everyone else said about the pliers and a rag. I took mine off and it definitely hadent been taken off before and wow I had a heck of a time.
Oh, if you need a stock knob after all this I'll give you a stock one for whatever the cost of shipping is

torch it!
fire solves everything.

Haha, when you do that to Toyota shifters, the shaft falls apart into two pieces. (I made a short shifter for my supra that way)
If you can't get the remnents of the knob off, a skyline R32 shifter is an excellant upgrade.

strap wrenches work well too, and the rubber wont mess up your knob's finish

man, I tried mine for months, and so did my friends... no one could get it off. Then one day... one of my boys was talking to me, we were chilling & drinking, and I told him about how no one could get my knob off. He's like oh yeah? lemme try. We go out to my car, he gets into the passenger seat... and with one hand and a snap of the wrist... CLICK... its off. I still can't figure out what he did...

its nothing magical, its just that he was the lucky one that got it when it was loose...
if you want to go into more detail, was it warm, or cold outside? humid or dry outside? all these factors add up...
but you probably dont care lol :)

How in hell has this post carried on this long?
Should we start one about how do you turn the ignition key? Or what about the volume knob on the radio, that one still gets me to this day.
