View Full Version : CF Door panel inserts?

I am looking to replace my inner door panels with a pair of carbon fiber sheets. So I am looking for a good place to get sheets of carbon I can cut to spec to install. One thing I would really like though is a sheet designed for a door panel so it curves up to meet with the window not just a flat piece to cover the door internals. I will be mounting a handle and the switchs for the pw and pdl on these panels so I dont mind doing some of my own fab and if I could I wouldnt mind using the heat gun to mold these peices but I am pretty sure that wont work with cf.

even more gangster than that is NOT HAVING INNER DOOR SKINS AT ALL

skeet skeet skeet.
of course this works best when the handle is on a cable instead of a rod and you don't have any windows lol

^ that's what Im talking about. Why add carbon fiber to add weight? If you want to be serious, go with gutted doors. If not, then leave it stock or buy a Honda. Im sure they have a bunch of CF add on options.

i'm guessing he just wants to get rid of his Inner Door Panel but keep the neccessities like power locks/windows, and doesn't wanna go gutted cause it's street driven.
i've been thinking about this too, if you don't wanna get the origin lab version:
http://www.origin-lab.com/images/inner.jpg
you're gonna have to make one, cause that's about it.

I like the beer one.
I think I'll just put some aluminum over mine, maybe it will match the dash that I'll make

Limited Magic actually makes a set for the S14 too, the entire panel I mean.
Raretrick sells it, I think it's like $700 for the pair, which actually ain't bad for something like that.

how much are the Bee*R buggers? both are cool weightwise, but i like the origin ones better...the way i treat my car, the clear would get fucked up by my feet and ash...

Yeah the bee-r ones are more what I am looking for. When the cage goes in I need something not as big as the stocks but I do drive it everyday and I dont want to gut the inner doors completely. Its not neccisarilly for wieght savings though it will help a little its more just to clean up the interior without having that completely gutted feel for everyday driving. Thanks for all the input guys. and also anyone know if they make roll center spacers for the lower control arms to adjust roll center and camber curve? Right now I think my car is cambering out under load which doesnt make much sense at all :) I think some roll center spacers will correct the geometry but I dont want to spend the $1300+ on adjustable lower controll arms front and rear.

limited magic went out of business like 2 yrs ago
the origins (which i have bought already) are almost the exact same as the frp-magic ones were
bee*r is nice, but too basic, i like an arm rest on the door

A right and left set by Origin go for 36,540 JPY.
I got a in japan waiting to be shipped together with other items.
With shipping to the U.S I think you
are looking at around $500-$550.
It may be cheaper in the U.S when they are offered IDK,
that is the price now in Japan.
Couple more pics.

500-550 a piece or pair? They are a little slimmer in the lower area arent they without the map pocket they might be perfect with the door bars

Now I really really want the Origin-Labs ones! Does anyone make a full CF dash? I know Raceonusa.com has a steering wheel dash cover, but not a complete dash.

Those Origin-Lab door panels are great . The only problem is I enjoy my music every now and then so how hard would it be to cut a hole in there for the speaker?

Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass are easily cut. You just need to leave yourself room to cover up the cut for a clean appearance.

looks too tacky imo. looks good but i dont see it being used for anything other than looks. i mean stock door panels weigh nothing already.

those cf inserts are pretty hard on S14, even tho interior CF is not my personal taste
flat sheets of stainless are pretty dope too, just like on the Weld S14

I agree it is mostly looks but stock door panels are a little heavy and it is more for clearance with a cage and side bars for me anyway. I dont want to rock the no door panels since I drive the car everyday so its practicallity.

If the CF is "too tacky" for you, Origin-Labs list Carbon Fiber and FRP variants.

would the carbon fiber be lighter than the stainless???

air is lighter than carbon fiber
heh
Yeah carbon is lighter than stainless but it depends on how thick the carbon is and the design the origin carbon might be heavier than an 1/8" stainless sheet but not noticable either way we are only talking a couple of lbs
axiomatik
11-10-2005, 09:50 PM
1/8" inch would be hella heavy. 1/8" steel sheet is about 5 lbs/sq.ft., that would be like 30 lbs per door.

I wish someone would make a dash, I saw FRP/Carbon Fiber dash stuff in JP but I don't think anyone is making it for USDM cars yet. I don't care if it's carbon fiber or FRP or what, I'm just tired of spending 8 hours to swap a old ass uncracked dash into my car just so it can crack 2 months later. A S15 style dash for the S13 would be awesome..

Normally I'd flame you for bumping a 3yr old thread, but at least you searched first. I'm sure this will get locked, but someone hs too have purchased them by now. Also, are you looking for pics on an a S13 or S14? Good luck.

Carbon fibre is gonna be splinter-tastic if you get t-boned. I got a CF splinter a couple of weeks back as I had some flat carbon sheets I was making doorcards from [until I found the stock card fitted round my s13's doorbars if you take the pockets off]. I swear that shit hurts more than wood splinters.

Thanks for the heads up about the splinter problem.
I didn't want to start a new thread because I know I'll be flame for sure. I'm looking for S14 picture. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks...

There's a picture of the CF door panel on an S14 on Origin's site...
As for the fitment and quality... Origin is pretty well known for their fitment and quality, so I'm sure its not something you'd have much of an issue with.
