So after the incident with the JGS manifold, no heat protection, and the turbo kissing my BMC, which locked up my brakes on the FREEWAY.. I got a little paranoid about heat.. Even though I have a different manifold, turbo blanket and thermal wrap on my cylinder.. can you ever over-do it? Looks kinda janky and i still plan on wrapping the down-pipe, but it gets the job done. Its hard to tell from the pics but the sheet metal doesn't touch the ANYTHING! (down pipe, BMC, or booster..) whatcha think?

BTW, did this with a cast on too.. broke my right hand

Maybe if you were to wrap the side of the shield facing the turbo in heat cloth.

Side note. IMO it'll look a tad bit "cleaner" if you were to run the oil line under, instead of over.

you think that is necessary? the only place it touches is on the blanket. where do they have heat cloth?

and the oil line is not long enough damnit.. hah... I know its an eye sore

Isn't your MBC wrapped in heat/thermo cloth???

Looks functional, but how is it not touching anything? Where did you get the thermal wrap and turbo blanket? What manifold is that?

its adhesive thermal wrap.. guess I could put some of that on there.
how is your oil-line run?

it doesnt touch 'cuz I bent it away from everything. there is at least half inch between dp and shield and BMC and shield.

thermal wrap came from All Parts, blanket from phase2, and ETD manifold

I like your effort but I think you could have done it a bit better by having cleaner bends. Then again you had a broken arm so I give it an "A" for effort.

A better way, or to expand on your design, is to cut two sheets similair size, one slightly larger. Lay heatwrap and sandwich it between both sheets of metal, then fold the larger one over the smaller and make it one piece. Roll the edges to avoid loosing a finger. It triples the heat deflection and looks clean as hell, near OE.

good F*ckin' idea.. thanks Russ.
yah almost cut myself with those edges.

Could you post some clearance pics of the ETD manifold without all the heat shielding. I was told that the pics on their site about MBC clearance were decieving... Also what turbo are you using (ie On-Center/Tangential)

i thought i was going to see a stock looking heatshield, so its would be kinda hideable (its my word bitches)

you thought wrong.. and why hide such a pretty turbo??
hood popped = fucked whether turbo is 'hidden' or not

well i guess, i dont know, i like stock looking engine bays, i guess, i dont like things that look out of lace, i would prefer to be poped and bieng able to hid the turbo, with a stock looking heat shield, that have something on there that obviously doesnt belong. BTW are ou using ATE SUPER BLUE Brake FLUID?

Looks good man. I want to do the same thing, so thanks for the pics! I have the same manifold, its a tight fit. Where did you get your downpipe made?

It ain't no sticker.. it was masked before I painted my valve cover. And yes, I am the only remaining active member in California. Even though I don't 'street race' anymore. Used to have a Z32.

downpipe was done at a muffler shop in morgan hill. $240 for turbo back 3" with resonator, catco cat and apexi muffler.
