View Full Version : engine has a problem
so i was getting a tuneup at a local shop today and it turns out one of my valve is lacking fuel consumption. (what the mechanic told me) specifically he told me that the lubrication pump is not lubricating enough oil to the valves in which the valves doesnt open enough at times.
its doing this due to lack of oil to the valve because the oil pumps old and it cant pump up power as it used to. i asked about the price to fix this and his replied $400 for labor and part. (wont u be able to purchase a ka for $500?)
the motor, makes a click click (like spinning click click as if somethings loose - also gurggling sound) noise right where the motor oil cap is. the noise starts to happen when you turn the engine on or after a hard run.
my question is, is the mechanic right about the gurggling sound? if he is, is he being fair about the price?
can i fix this myself? is it hard to fix? i'm asking all this if when it is the valve problem. (some of the things that the mechanic told me didnt make sense which is why i'm talking to you guys.)
this question only reguards to those who has experience.

from the way he/you explain it sounds confusing as fuck(and part where you say "valve is lacking fuel consumption" makes no sence at all), but from what i can tell he was trying to say that your KA has HLA=hydrolic lifters which when low on oil pressure or excesive gunk build up cause taping noise and prevent valves from opening all the way. lack oil pressure means valve lash will be excesive meaning valve wont open all the way
he would have been right except no KA has HLA which means he does not know jack about nissans and you should either do tuneups yourself or take it to a reputable place not a god damn gas station across the street :duh: not trying to bust your balls but i jsut hate it when people dont think where they take their car to get worked on. this is almost as important as doing maintenance on time if not more.
rattle your engine is making should be the timing chain and 500 is too good of a price to get it done. my shop charges 2k (12hours) including oem timing chain parts which usually come to close 400.

/\ wow 2 k for labor...delaership huh? timing chain has two fixes...remove the 2 guides wich ussually wear and cause the noise/rattle ...free fix if you know what to do OR fix # 2 change whole chain. kit can be bought for around ~$300 but labor is around 6-7 bills at a NON- dealership...just yeah what he said make sure they know what the fuc they are doing...

Дорогой мой , this is a NON-dealership :) .we specialize in all jap. cars.
removing those guides is just a band aid for people that cant afford to do it right. Or on low milege engines under 120 .If you wait too long it'll cost your engine.

removing the guides is a fix when the guides have come loose and sit on the chain
removing the guides is a bandaid when the chain goes slack for some reason and the guide is still fixed in place

true but guides dont just come loose . they lossen up because chain stretches hits the guide and vibration causes the bolts to loosen.

most of the time, but guides do come loose...
my chain tension was in spec, but the screws had come out and were sitting in little crevices in the head under the cams.
