Well I picked up a shift trim from the junk yard last week and the boot was aweful. I had a lame universal"fit" one laying around (with the bungee around the bottom). I decided to take the old OEM boot off and custom fit the universal. I started by cutting the rings off of the original to get the boot off without breaking the plastic posts on the underside of the trim. Then I removed the boot and undid the seam on the "universal". Once the bottom seam was cut open I removed the bungee. then I ironed the curl out of the bottom and tried to fit it on.......Of course it was way to small!! So I cut little notches in it all the way around and tried again.....still no dice :( So then I started stretching the leather out. ( I felt like one of those guys you see on biker build off) I worked it until the boot fit over the bottom trim. then I place it on and punched the holes in it for the posts on the plastic trim. I took some time to fit the boot on over the posts so that I wouldn't break them and them put it all together. I even cut the rings off the posts earlier in a way that I was able to reuse them to hold it all together. It isn't perfect but it looks great compared to the old oem POS :coolugh: once i put all the interior back in my car it will look great. the only thing wrong is that the boot is too tall but oh well. I have pics here

It looks rediculous if you just throw it in there...

...and after cutting, sewing, and a few drops of superglue...its still a little baggy. But hey, it was $10 and its better than one thats full of holes and rotting, right?

not bad, for mine i just used the og boot as a template, unstitched it, then recut the new fabric (you can use anything around the house, its free right?) and restitch. i choose to use the hidden stitch technique because you can be sloppy but have it come out smooth.
