I'm looking for pictures of unique, clean, and effective guage mounts. All designs are good for discussion.

Also I'd like to see some good pictures of using the S-AFC in place of the Tach.

There was a thread like this a while back, I am reviving the topic for new pictures and to spark ideas, maybe designs for contruction.

I would not say unique, but I was going for clean.

Yeah, could have squezed another in. But I think it would end up being cluttered and the carbonfiber might not have been strong enough in the thin spots between the gauges. So, I just left it at two.

I am using the Blitz Dual Turbo timer for my boost gauge.

That's my friend Greg's car from automotion from here in Canada. They aren't Z33 seats they are actually his original s14 seats that he had re-upholstered and the guy that did them added some more boltering on the sides for support and the middle hump like the Z33 seats. As for the door panels it's the same person that did those at the same time in the same leather.

Yeah I should have some, we took some shots at the last car show over here on the weekend of the 16th. You should see the two latest mods he did; GREX brake upgrade front and back, and custom converted rear taillights to full LED. It's kinda hard to explain but trust me it's sick as hell! I'm at work now so I don't have the pics with me but I was planning on passing by the shop later today so I can get the latest shots and the ones I got on my computer at home.

ignited switches.

1 of them at the moment controls the electric fan on the rad.
the other 2 are just there to make it look right and further down the road when i need more switches, they are already installed!

he had it imported, makes all the difference.

By the way, I don't have pictures yet but this is my future setup:

I don't want to disturb the stock CD player location, I like keeping that stock, MAYBE Relocate it to the dash and switch it with the guage locations but:

my 3 Guages above the center vents, angled towards driver.
Turbo timer HKS type 1 mounted to the left of the steering column
Boost controller... I don't know
SAFC, maybbbbe mounted somewhere, probobly in place of the ash tray though.
CD player / DVD in stock location (flip up)

Where could I put my SAFC that looks nice instead of the ashtray, but still effectively read.

Hey I know it's been awhile but I forgot all about the fact that someone had wanted another pic of my friends s14 interior. This is a pic from the other side so you can really see the dash with the gauge install. there are two defi gauges on the a pillar but in the pic you only see one. Also the turbo timer is on the other side of the steering wheel here you clearly see the AVC-r and EDFC for the tein suspension. Also notice the s15 electrice light adjuster (that is wired and works) and the relocated cruse control. It did work when he had an sr20det but now with the RB26DETT it's non-exsistent, who needs cruise anyways...lol. Any other info on the car let me know.

ACK! Looks like a future HIN recruitee. If the trim panel was finished in textured OE material it'd look a LOT better, that super gloss black is awful. Too much import cool flash. I bet the reflections at night are deadly off that son of a bitch.
Plus it's funny to see OE S15 gauges paired up with cheap, subpar Autometer gauges, seems hypocritical.
But as mentioned, A+ for effort, it's not fun to mold big pieces like that.

i'm selling those gauges, since i got these ones for free. and these ones won't fit 3-accross in a din sized panel. once i get a daily driver i won't need the climate controls anymore, so i'll just make a panel for em around there i guess. or maybe just leave em up top. they'e easy to see there.

Idiot, the purpose of an aftermarket tach isn't "SIZE".
It's 1: accuracy (much more accurate than stock also with different redlines and higher rev capabilities)

and 2: shift light

That's my friend Greg's car from automotion from here in Canada. They aren't Z33 seats they are actually his original s14 seats that he had re-upholstered and the guy that did them added some more boltering on the sides for support and the middle hump like the Z33 seats. As for the door panels it's the same person that did those at the same time in the same leather.

1) Apillar gauges obstruct your outward view considerably. Three of them would block an entire sightline and make you more suseptible to causing accidents.

2) Apillar gauges are harder to read because they're closer to you, requiring your eyes to focus longer when viewing them, taking away from your attention of the road and the things around you.

3) Three gauges stacked on an Apillar looks stupid because the lowest one is on an entirely different plane of sight, as is the top one.

4) Carbon fiber trim may look nice as an accent, but an entire pillar of CF doesn't flow with the rest of the trim, the mating edge to the Bpillar wouldn't match, and the rest of the interior would need similiar accents on either side to look like it was fitted appropriately the car.

5) CF in itself is designed to save weight, but the added material to make the guage cups would offset any weight savings, therefore making it just as heavy as the factory plastic piece.

Shall I go on?

I finally found the upload cord for my camera.

I am very pleased with my setup, most definatley. and the relocation of the climate control was easy. it just doesn't fit, so you have to either dremel the climate control, or the bezel. and loosely screw it together. it looks like ass with the bezel off, but nice with it on. pointless carbon fiber owns me. I know there are others that hate it... but I cant get enough... lol. if I could afford to make overlay's for my whole interior I would do it... now after making myself look like a moron, heres my contribution.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/sykopaath/IMG_3629.jpg

hope you guys like it. I sure do...

God forbid, but I plan on molding air/fuel and oil temp into the bezel around the cluster and I also plan on putting boost and egt into the a pillar... I think it will be great. most will not.

SimpleS14

nigel1 - That's very nice, infact I was looking to do the same setup (sorry haha). Do you mind telling me how you got the gauges to stay in place? I was thinking of fabbing something up using plexiglass.

nigel1
12-19-2005, 05:38 PM
the gauges are held in by the metal brackets that come with them, they are shaped like this... |_| and then the carbon fiber is just cut to fit really snug in there, and then I fabbed up two brackets that rotate to hold the cf panel in place. I used a holesaw to cut the holes as well for added cleanliness, the climate control was just dremeled on the sides to make it the same width as the cdplayer, and all that was loosely screwed together at first and then tightened down, if you do it to your car you will know exactly what I mean by that. for the bezel overlay I removed the ash tray cover and cut off the extra material with the dremel, and used plexiglass from home depot and made the block off for the cigarette lighter, and JB Kwicked everything in place, I then sanded it all smooth and put a quick coat of bondo over everything, and sanded that smooth. then I spraypainted it all black and made a template for the carbon fiber. I then traced it to the cf sheet and cut it out and attatched it to the original bezel. I used a holesaw to make the new 12v outlets, that I purchased at radioshack to power my radar detector and my cellphone charger or G-tech or whatever. the outlets were 6 bux a piece and come with nice built in plugs so when nothing is plugged in it looks super clean still. I think thats about it. :)

I agree. That's what I've been planning on doing in my S13. My KA-T project is moving along now and I should have gauges sometime in the not so distant future. Planning on moving the a/c / heater controls down like that too, that way the gauges will be more in the normal sight line. I was gonna put them under the headunit but that's way too low to be looking at while driving. Thanks for the pics Nigel! Anyone done this in an S13 yet? Just curious if the controls fit down there without major surgery. I have no problem trimming things, that's for sure. Dremel 4 teh w1n!

scottb.. which cluster is that?

r33 gts-t. it fits almost perfectly if you just take out the white piece of plastic above the s14 cluster and just kinda jam it in there, no screws or anything.

I kept the s14 cluster harness and spliced the r33 harness into it so I can switch between the two clusters whenever i want.:rawk:

i had to notch the center peice to get my head unit to fit - since then i've gone radio-less, and put gauges there - and have since removed the stock tach and speedo for some aftermarket gauges similar to dousans old setup. ill get a defi speedo with some hud someday soon as for now i wont know how fast i am goin ;)

i hated to take the die grinder to that center - but a peice of rough sandpaper cleaned it up like perfect ;)

Here are some pics that i was sent this morning from one of our customers in Switzerland, he
had a need to mount multiple components. We recently started making our meter panels with a high strength fire resistant aerospace foam core. Once you cut your pattern out thru the top laminate, the foam core cuts like butter. We also make full S13 and S14 gauge deletes that are water jet cut. Dry carbon finish is so sex.
