Is the Sears Crasftsman 2.25 ton jack/stand combo enough for a 1991 Fastback LE?
I can't find the wieght of the car. The manual says it may be around 2900lbs tops. However, my door sticker says like 3400lbs! Who knows...
The 2.25 ton combo is only $50

What do you guys use?

2.25 tons is enough, that sticker that's on the door factors in the car at with fluids full and the car at full capacity at 170lbs a piece.
170x4=680
3400-680=2720

You are the man.
I think you have answered every question I have had.
Thanks <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
And I did figure out that I wouldn't be lifting the whole car anyways. If I do, I'll buy a set of 3 tons.

consider it's a 2.25 tons, and your car weights 2700lbs, about. if you crawl under the car, it might just give away, and crushing your ribs, and puncture your lungs/heart, ultimately kill you. and you will die of a miserable death... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
alirght alirght, 2.25 is PLENTY, i do my car w/ a 2 ton, it's fine.
btw where you get 170lbs from?

I actually thought it was 180 lbs/each for passengers. And since I'm presuming youre only jacking up the front or rear, 2 ton is even enough. I use 2 ton on my vert, got them at pep boys on sale for $11!

I got a 2 1/2 ton jack and i'm afraid every time I jack up my mercedes, the sucker weighs 4800 lbs and the jack creeks when I use it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> ......... Jackstands, don't forget to use the jackstands <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> For the 240 2.25 ton should be good

my friend/coworker told me it was 170, so it could be 180, but if you use 170 the theoretical weight of the car comes out very close to the real weight. (an S13 is right at 2700 isn't it?) if you used 180 it'd come out to be 2680lbs, and i don't think i've heard of an S13 weighing under 2700. on a side note, coupes will weigh less than hatches because glass>metal
btw 2.5 tons = 5000lbs

I read some where that the HB weighs less than the Coupe.\
I'll look and see if I can find it again. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

Did you spend that time because you like the coupe or because of the 50lbs
I don't know if 50lbs is worth 1.5 years
And may your 240 rest in peace. I will hold a vigil in her honor <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Ah crap. I am a dumb ass.
They did have the 2.25 ton jack with two stands for $50.
They also have the 3 ton jack for $50 and you get 2 free stands <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>
I'll pick up the 2.25 though. That way if I ever lower (sportlines here I come!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> it, it should fit under better.
Thanks guys,
Jeff

2.5 ton jacks are more than enough, unless you own a mustang.

well... think about it...
you're lifting half of a vehicle that weighs maybe 1.5 tons with a 2.5 ton jack.... that is.... unless you're lifting the entire car, in which case you're probably lifting from the tranny and screwing your mounts up and breaking stuff....
oh yeah... with sportlines, the car is a bitch to jack up with any jack besides the stock one (unless you're daring enough to lift the car with a hydraulic jack by the stock location.... umm). just get the best jack you can (for fear of blowing the jack out.... i've blown up 2) and some wooden blocks. when you need to jack it up, stick the block in front of the tire, roll the car onto the block, and you've got instant jacking room.
Just a note, when I got my stand it was one of the smallest I could get, and thank god it was because once I lowered my car, it just barely fit under any of my cars.

Thanks guys.
I got the set for $50 with the 2.25 ton stuff. Hopefully it will work with sportlines in the future.
Now I need to get an FSM to find the jack points.
On a relate dnote, Nissan used 170lbs x 4 people to calculate weight. Anyone else see the problem? How Nissan expects me to cram 4 170lbs people in my fastback, without the trunk <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
