well seeing how your intake usually sits right there (unless you have cold air), im pretty safe to assume they are functional.. i think.

Considering the size of the opening, I can't see it doing much, plus it's kind of ugly. You would probably get more benefit from going sleepy-eye.

I bet if you cut a hole that size in your windsheild you'd change your mind about how much air would be going through something like that. I do agree 100% that its ugly and has some cureves that dont go with an S13 at all. IMO if you want to make some kind of deal to get fresh outside ait to your filter like that, do a little duct work straight down to help air come up from under the car as it naturally wants to do anyways.

if you have a 91-93 front end you can cut a huge hole right under your air intake and it will draw air through the little vent in the front bumper under the headlight...

but really, you wont notice a difference in 5 hp

you may "think" and tell all your friends so... but no

Of course air will go through there. That is why it was made.
The real question is; Does it produce results?

Yeah, some air will go in there, but you have to remember that air is pouring into the engine bay through the radiator, and it doesn't have an easy way to get out, so you get a high pressure zone in the engine bay at speed. It's also a tiny slit, and it is set back away from the bumper, so it won't catch as much air as, say, a slit in the windshield. Bottom line, you'll never feel a difference.

having little vents like that dont do squat, if u really would like some diffrence route some intake tubing to a hole in the bumper with the filter facing forward.. that would probably help...
