The other day my starter died. Earlier in the day the starter struggled to turn the engine and then in the evening nothing would happen when I turned the key. I've had to make sure to either park on a hill or have people with to help me push in order to start my car. I can hear clicking when I turn the key and the other day I was rolling down a hill getting ready to kick start and I turned the key and it fired up with the clutch all the way in. Then I shut the car off and tried starting it again and it fired up standing still. I turned my car off to try it again and it stopped working again. I havn't had a chance to get under my car to take a look yet but does anyone have any suggestions, or tell me if I will more than likely just need to go out and buy a new starter? I appreciate the help.

Just go out and get a new one. If you take your out and bring it to an autoparts store they can test it. Also get your battery checked, sometimes its not always starter. Ive seen people coming in trying to warranty a started when its not even the problem. But you sound like you know whats up. Best bet is to take it off and get it tested.

another way to get it started til you get a new starter, is to keep a small hammer in your car. or rubber mallet. pop the hood and tap the starter while someone is turning the key. it'll unfreeze the solenoid and start right up. had to do this just last week when my starter died

buy one, sounds like my problem i had before, had to wait awhile like hours or i'd have to just park it and wait the next day til i could start it up again, something w/the starter taking forever

so i take it the KA starters are kinda weak? mine make all sorts of horrible grinding noises when it starts/ grinds and dies insted of starts. takes 2 key turns to start it now. so i got a new started ordered for it. and it only has 82000 miles on it. so is the starter a known weak point for this car, or does it just happen to go bad alot for a few of us?

yea try tapping the starter, your battery full charge? sometimes when its low it doesnt have enough amps to turn it correctly. Good luck, mine was dead, so my friend at kragen hooked it up.

My battery is relatively new and has full charge. I've tried jumping it and nothing happened so I know it isn't the battery unfourtunately. Today I'll probably just go out and get a new one. Thanks for the help.

The fact that it is clicking means that the gear is kicking out but not turning, this means the solenoid is fine.

I would not say this is a weakpoint of the KA, just normal electronics. The more you drive = the more you start the car. Normal wear, mine went out at 120k.

True that. I actually just bought a used starter for $30 shipped off this forum so til it arrives I'm just gonna have to keep parking on hills.

mine will click, and finally start the car if i dick with it enough times. if i tap it with a hammer, is that just going to repair it for the ONE time it starts, or do i get a few starts leeway with that?

So if it clicks, does that mean that its something other than the starter?

Or if its a manual, push start it. Haha
