I need an actual pic of the cams with the engine at TDC compression #1.
timing chains are aftermarket and the lower is missing a reference mark, and i dont have a stock one to compare it to. So my plan is to set it by eye.
If someone has a pic of what it should look like that would be great. I tried 9&3 and got 60psi of compression. So I really need a pic.

the cam lobes up front should be pointing outwards towards the fenders

tried that, got 60psi compression
then thinking about it:
TDC cmp: I< E>
BDC pwr: I/\ E\/ (exhaust cam was opening well before power was completed)
TDC exh:I> E<
BDC int: I\/ E/\ (intake open late)

for the exhaust cam trick what is the amount of links to turn it, your link said 3, the other posts i have read say 4 teeth? or do you mean 3 pins=4teeth?
mine is in the garage in the engine stand with a 248 intake and 232 exhaust right now, with a ss t28 mani with a gt2871r botled to it, cant wait.

nice link, I think I can find another S13 exhaust cam too.
i'm really hoping 19 links is correct, i have to assemble my engine tomorrow.
Anyone want a pair of S13 intake cams :D

lol i should run a s13 intake cam as my exhaust cam.

if you run a exhaust cam for intake and a intake cam for exhaust it will continue to retard cam timing. without repining the exhaust cam and running it as is, I think removes 1 degree, but that seems to help turbo cars. doing the same on the other side is beleaved to be too much.. feel free to try it thow.. and tell us if I am a compleat idiot ^_^

I checked its 18 links on exhasut side if you dont count those that are over the timing marks . and 26 on long side=intake
then on top chain you got 6 links between cams sprockets then another 6 between exhasuit sprocket that intermidiet gear and 9 between intake and int gear. and again not counting links that are directly over teh marks

right now i got the 248/232 combo in, i moved my 248 intake over 4 teeth. the lob position looks right, but even being off by 1 tooth i wouldnt be able to visably tell. all we did was take a scribe and put a new timing mark on thcam gear to skip the whole re-pinning thing. havnt ran it yet, hopin to reasure my self on my timing placement

If you dont plan on keeping this engine for a very very long itme id look in to aftermaket chains(chains only not guides)Just did a timing chain job yestarday on an s14 and we used Aftermarket Chain from Advance looked like very good quality and had all proper maks on them.

Went to teh dealer today and got the new chains, water pump and thermostat and it was another $200 on top of the $200 I already spent on the tensioners and guides :(. I want it done right htough so I am going to replace all that and put it back together in a day or two.
I don't know what to do about my aftermarket pulley though >:(
