I have a 93 240 Vert w/ka24de motor (stock - just got the car back on road). The shop is having problems getting the timing correct. The car went in with a warped head and leaking head gasket, but ran fine until then. The hop sent the head out to be straightened out and it was milled down a fair bit, I was told that the compression ratio was going to be raised a bit. Now they are having problems getting the car to run right. The gas was drained from tank and new fuel filter put in. My question is if the head compression ratio is changed should the stock timing settings be used? Any help would be appreciated. (and yes i know it's a truck motor, but it's temporary) :newbie:

Truck motor...you're clueless. :hammer:
But to be helpful:
1) Set the motor to TDC on #1 (line it up with the crank pulley)
2) Remove the distributor cap, and align the rotor to ~10 o'clock.
3) Install the dist, make sure the rotor is still arond 10 o'clock...it will move as it slides in.
If it does not start, then remove the dist, align to TDC #1 again, and install...but rotate the distributor rotor COUNTER-clockwise a little, so when it goes in it will land at ~9:30-10 or so...basically, so the edge of the rotor is justa hair before the #1 pin on the dizzy.
Good luck with it...

you need to be more specific as . does it missifre vibrate or what... how do you define "not run right" this can mean so many things.such slight change in compression ratio wont cause this...
shop could have screwd up the timing when they put everything back on ... if its a tooth it will never run right .
vacuum leak at can make car idle rough
why was The gas was drained from tank and new fuel filter put in.? did you have fuel pressure problems? or did car sit for very long time(in which case fuel woudl have broken down)
