easiest way to tell is to get behind the car and push down firmly on the bumper and let go. If the shocks go through more than one cycle (aka from your hands to the ground, to when you release, back up and then down to the normal position) then they are shot. I love when my Dad teaches me cool shit about cars when I was young!

hmm ok well i did that and its fine however to me it feels like when i take a hard turn the car kinda stays in that position for a second before the shock returns itself.... hmmm.....

if there's oil on the shock, it's done. or if it's so bad that it sprays up in your fender well like mine did, it's done. i first noticed when it was dripping on my tire. didn't exactly provide the best grip.

I don't know the truth behind this so correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that if you have alot of wheel hop its cuased by by shocks.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, just something i read

I know my rear shocks are gone and I get alot of wheel hop...I'm swapping them out when I get my car back from the sr20 swap.

I had a bunch of wheel hop before I changed out my two back shocks.
I did the push test and it did the one bounce… but when I took out my shocks.

On 95se I just pushed down on the wheel before I popped the shock off and it did not have much load on it… When I got the shock off, I could push and pull the rod in and out (real easy like omg easy) anyways the point of my long post is.. If your wheels are hopping in corners, while driving on rough road, or sometimes on start. You probably in need of new shocks. Ohh to put the shocks back on, I had my friend push down on my suspension (you know where the wheel attaches those bolts) and the shock just popped back in real easy.

Oh shit so THAT'S why my wheels hop when I take to the twisties!! I never knew why they hopped in the middle of turns rather than skidding. Now I understand. I never thought shocks could be the source of my cornering-wheel-hop. Though, granted, it's not that serious.

Thank y'all for the good info!
