i was brought across the same problem..and i took the SR road. and you say 3300$ so did i..ive spent 4500$ on parts and other stuff for the car..and still no motor yet haha..once you decide SR money for parts > bills and such but i wouldnt change my mind if i could. so go for the SR!

I would rather have a stock KA than an SR...build the KA.

I am currently making an adapter plate where you can use both. A v mounted sr-ka V8. Right now, all I got is a kit to run them in parallel. But the only problem is the passenger has to shift the same time you do. Do some research an find out the pro's and con's to each engine, if you cant decide for your self, buy my twin engine kit.

It also depends on the condition of the KA. I had the same issue with my KA, but I had chronic cooling problems among other problems, so I decided to go SR.

Mosy of the SR guys have chronic cooling problems. The KA guys just have chronic. Just to forget they have a KA. hahaha

ok, you have trouble cooling a 155hp engine, so your remedy is to use a 200hp+ engine?

I haven't seen anyone drop an SR in for less than $5k with out taking short cuts.

For $900 I would look for another KA for that price.

900bucks to fix the head? MIght as well get a decently low mileage KA for roughly 100ish (sohc) or about 300ish (dohc).

Thats funny, "spend 900 to fix what i have" or "spend 4k on something that'll cost more to repair if broken."

Damn, thats not actually funny.

i bought a front clip for 2,200 shiped to my door about 2 years ago and i put it in and wired it up my self and the only exta costs where oil, powersteering, coolent, and geting rid of the clip. my motor is still running like a champ. all together i spent maybe 3,000 as of now on the motor. so i would have to say SR or even CA. :w00t:

That was two years ago, times have changed since then and price have gone up.

To the original poster, replace the KA and save up for a RB25(or BR20) :whip: or just buy a bulit KA motor from Top Hat Performance ($2500).

The problem was I got the car repaired after an accident, and the shop didn't put any antifreeze in the engine, just straight water. I didn't notice for over a year (I wasn't too great with car maintenance when I was 16) until it started leaking brown water from a rusted-through fitting. I fixed it up and started checking the cooling system regularly. However, a few years later, the cooling system was acting up again and began dumping a gallon of coolant on the ground every 2-3 months as one thing after another failed. So, I got tired of fixing a rusted out engine and decided that if I was going to go through the hassle and expense of swapping out a motor, I didn't want to end up with pretty much the same engine I started out with.

I noticed it eats away at my flesh when I touch it. It must be a hella strong acid. It's an acid right?

wow. peopel are still asking this question.
turbo ka or sr swap are both gonna be big money.
what you need to do is evaluate how much money you will fell like dumping into this and kinda figure out what you want to do with the car. what power are you looking for?
i love the idea of a turbo ka. i have an sr. i blew her up and am rebuilding it cause all my shhit is sr stuff.
go ka turbo and do a mild build on the motor and run the old ebay bottom mount with a gtir turbo. deatschwerks injectors, enthalpy tune. i would think that maybe 350whp would be the peak and you would have a great powerband for a relativley small amount of money. if you wanna do a drag car then buy a mustang as you will one day find out that you will replace 80% of the car to go really fast.
whatever. search, noob!

My clip was 2700 shipped this past summer. the clip came with a perfect radiator and smic. you dont need to tweak ne thing unless you plan to boost up. the stock sr is gonna own that ka. and if you wanna drive around stock for a while, then boost up, you already have a great platform. dont get me wrong, the ka can run well but its not gonna hold the kind of power through revs like that sr will. just my $.02...
