hey everybody. well i just recently got in an accident with my 1994 BMW 325is. ive been a huge fan of jdm/import cars for the past 5 years before i got my bmw.....but know since that headache is out of the way, i have been looking for 240's....i like the style of the s13 because of the rear jdm taillights you can put on.....the only thing is i really like the s15 headlight coversion......i have a couple of questions
what are some things to look for in a used 1989-1994 240sx? problems? price range of used 240s?
what is a good 240 to start out with? a s13 or s14? which one has more parts and is more reliable? keep in mind i want to do the s15 front end conversion.....
where is a legit place to find a sr20det used?
and local Bay area, ca guys know of any local shops that work on 240's and can do sr swaps for a good price?
thnaks guys! looking foward to post more zilvia.net and meet some cool members!

honestly, just search just S15 conversion, SR20DET, and search ebay for what you like for a body style. Cant go wrong with either an S13 or S14, I love them both. I own 2 S13's and an S12, I swear these cars are an addiction....

there is a crazy shift between bmw and 240 drivers i have seen so many m3 owners selling their m3s and getting 240s and i have seen a lot of 240 owners going to bmw and i know this because im a smog tech and people come to smog their cars when they are selling them or buying a new car

That kind of reminds of every last "Tuner" type I have spoke to over the last two years. Your not alone nistech, I have seen the spark mainstream drifting has ignited. The trend now is that everyone who wants to have "in" or "cool" import is abandoning their previous cars, mostly hondas, and started hunting 240sx. Now, I'm not saying that hi.im.kaji is one of this people, obviously he is a more refined driver (BMW owner). I'm just stating what I see as trend within the Tuner scene because 240 fits into this subculture, whether I like it or not. Anyhow, To all you noobs good luck, welcome to the silvia lovers club!

yea the thing is that ive always been into drifting.....i used to drift my bmw but the thing is that all my friends drive imports....sti, two evo 8's, is300, ae86, dc2, dc5, and an acura cl......so the thing is that im the euro boy left out....hehehe so when i crashed my car i wanted to go jdm and with my love of drifting......so not really a trend but more of i should have already been "in" since....hehehe.

Psh, that's the same thing with S13s, they're like. . .over 10 years old, so you're more likely to have issues wit this next car, the only difference is it'll only cost you an arm, instead of both an arm, and a leg.

GG all those posts and your'e still a lasy dumbass. Being lasy isn't an excuse. Joining a new forum and asking every question that could possible ever be asked is an nice reason to be a nub. A 94 3series is worth jack for trade in and you expext to do a motor/front swap that is worth more than your bimmer would be?
So let me get this straight. You don't want to pay the price to mantain a car, so you purchace a 240 that will need to be maintained and modded. And that's not even factoring in the price if you wish to mod it all the way and insure it. People like you make me want to stop driving 240's. Then I remember that there are other 240 owners that arn't total retarts.

so i guess 10 grand isnt enough these days to find a used 240 and do a sr20det engine swap? hahah i was just kidding about the lazyness thing...it was a few simple questions that any respectable 240 owner can anwser.
i had a fairly modded bimmer with an engine swap and cams and was about to do a turbo setup on it....i have alot of left over parts that i sold and i wanted to start fresh in a new area i would like to learn.
my bimmer was in a accident so it was totaled but i managed to get a fair amount of money out of it. ive spent well over 20 grand just keeping the thing to run....and i enjoyed every second of it. i could have bought another bimmer but i have decided to try something new.
i figured i can come here as a noob "starting off fresh" and get some help in a subject or area that i have very little knowage of. but its jackasses like you i tried to get away from on other forums. try going on a bmw forums....they will tear u apart because you drive a japanese car, and call u a ricer. but i have a love for japanese cars that i have just discovered, and with that comes respect.
hopefully i will not make you want to stop driving your 240....because even though i dont know u i still respect you becuase you drive something i dont have right now. and hopefully you can teach me and school me on your passion that will soon to be mine.

Well, all this could've been avoided if you went at this with a diffrent approach.
10k for a 3series that isn't even a M3? If you managed to get more than twice your car's market value then props to you.
As for being on other forums and being called a ricer, it's all how you look at it. Lexus' are from japan and I know none that call those "rice cars". And most of the bimmer foums I'm on don't act that way unless you have people coming on acting like they are Takuimi or Paul Walker.
Just remember, first impressions are everything. Let this be a lesson and present yourself as how you want to be seen.
Now on another note, :lockd: :lockd: :lockd:

Mmm... The first impression you gave was that of a nub. All the time people come on asking the exact same thing you ask. It becomes redundant. So think of it this way, if you have a question chances are it's already been asked. As for the anwser to your questions...
#1- Chances are it's been abused as how every one and their mother wants a 240. So check for bondoed body pannels and look around the whole car for the yellow mark indicating that the part is more than likely replaced from that of a junkyard. The point were the fender and body line up under the door is most likely bent/crushed due to people jacking the car up the wrong way. If it has the stock foam spoiler then check for rust under the hatch. 89-90 are sohc's 91+ are dohc's. 89-90 had the zenki pignose front. 91-93 had the chucki. There are tons other but I don't want to post on every single one. All in all 240's are pos' but we still love um.
#2- That's all up to you on looks. It's a lil easier to get parts for the s13 types such as at a junkyard. IMO s15 looks best on a hatchback. Just to let you know, a s15 front requires conversion fenders and some sawzall to the body for the headlights and everything to fit.
#3-Everyone has their fav. spot for a motor, but best place to check is Venus auto in sac-town. Also for a place that is more local try Japan Parts in South SanFrancisco.
#4- I can't think of any spots to do an install, Total mind blank right now. But now a days sr swaps are pretty common just make sure you have all the parts or a clip for everything you need.
#5- The reason I said to lock the thread was because it was pointless as how many other people have posted the exact same thing.
Now if you have any questions regarding 240's holla at me in pm, and I'll be glad to anwser.

That statement really makes me think about what kind of person would own a bimmer and be on a forum if that's the retarded mindset that they own. I love to see all those douchesacks talking about how superior their engineering is, but they don't seem to mention it, when they're paying out of their ass for general maintenance. All those fuckers think because they have money that their opinions matter more, and that their mindset is the right one. Those people need to die.

what are some things to look for in a used 1989-1994 240sx? problems? price range of used 240s?
problems = everything. anywhere from a few hundred for a shell to 3-4k in mint condition. since you're planing a swap from the get go, it might be cheapest for you to buy one with a blown motor... or one that's already swapped.
what is a good 240 to start out with? a s13 or s14? which one has more parts and is more reliable? keep in mind i want to do the s15 front end conversion.....
s15 front has no real important impact on choice, except for the fact that s15 fronts look better on s13s... but that's just my opinion. you seem to like s13's so just get a s13.
where is a legit place to find a sr20det used?
find a reputable local shop... otherwise heavythrottle.com, etc.

Its funny but a lot of European car boards (esp. VW) will make fun of "ricer" Japanese cars regardless if it is ricey or not. They tend to think they are above Japanese cars because of their elitist "Euro" cars.
I once ran into a caravan of VWs on their way to a meet. I didn't want to break their caravan so I accelerated and got in front of the lead car, a Jetta. The guy cuts to the side, gets next to me and gives me a thumbs down out his window. Needless to say he got a taste of what a SR powered 240SX can do... in front of his buddies. Jetta my ass...
